Replacement Refs: 2 Were Previously Fired

Evidently, it’s slim pickings out there for replacement officials: “Two referees who were fired by the N.B.A. have been asked to officiate games while the league navigates a labor standoff with its regular referees. The two former referees, Michael Henderson and Robbie Robinson, are among 44 replacements invited to attend training camp this week, according to a list obtained by The New York Times. Both men were fired earlier this decade.”

So what? Are you going to be that picky? Either hire them, or hire me =)

Surely there are humans capable of reffing NBA games who haven’t previously been fired by the NBA.

Could be worse, they could’ve invited Tim Donaghy back

Nothing but the best for the NBA fans. Come on out and get your $27 hot dog and water while you’re at it.

Obviously it’s not what you know. It’s who you know.

Don’t the Mavs keep stats on all the league refs? The standoff will make things difficult for them, though I guess they have stats for at least 2 guys…

Thing about the NBA is, even though this might be a good time to try something like a four/five ref system or to consider expanding instant replay, all they’ll do is prove how very very stubborn and mired in tradition they are.

It would have made my day if the first scab ref’s given name had been “Hendin”.
