Kaman Replaces Roy on All-Star Team

He may not have been a candidate, but he’s certified official now. From the NBA league office: “Los Angeles Clippers center Chris Kaman has been named by NBA Commissioner David Stern to replace injured West All-Star guard Brandon Roy (right hamstring strain) of the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2010 NBA All-Star Game in Dallas. Kaman will be making his first All-Star appearance.”

Really? I thought they would replace Roy with another guard – Monta Ellis..

  • Joe

The Basketball Gods always come through

  • http://gmail dirty frank

Even a caveman can do it. I’m happy he’ll be at the show.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

That’s.. horrible Joe. That’s like saying CP3 and Roy didn’t deserve to play in the game.

  • JoeMaMa

niQ: I think Joe meant the White Basketball Gods.

Happy to see Kaman make the team, but not having Roy there is a bummer.

  • cramzy

Gasol and Kaman—awkward locker room moment that I PRAY they have footage of

  • ball4life

WTF?? No one wants to see Chris Gayman play… Jammal crawford deserves to be in it.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com TADOne

    Well deserved.

  • cramzy

i was really hopimg Monta and JSmith could’ve gotten in. Their games are meant for allstar games and I cant front—the past 2 or 3 games have been a** cheeks.

  • J-Ro

I was kinda hopin for Monta but I guess Kaman deserved it. So what happens now? Does Gasol slide back to forward or Kevin Durant to Guard?

  • T.Wroten5

Word up ball4life. Or my big bro Nate Robinson

  • J-Ro

Has there ever been an all-star that didn’t get PT?

  • Hussman25

YES! Chris finally gets recognized for the awesome year he’s having! Congrats Mr. Kaman!

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

Word up to Tony… but y’all forget which conference Roy’s in?

  • A.

@ball4life: “Jammal” Crawford doesn’t play in the West. And while I agree he’s playing well, he doesn’t deserve it over his high flying teammate. But that has nothing to do with this. Atleast name someone from the Western Conference.

  • http://www.nicekicks.com Chris

@ ball4life & T.Wroten: You guys do realize this is the western all star team right…? Nate Robinson has no business in the game either.

  • Jose

Good for him. Dude deserves it. Aint he the only center in the league that leads his team in scoring??cant tell me that dont give him a pass in right?

  • tavoris

@Jose-Dwight Howard does too, strangely enough. I’m glad Kaman got in as a replacement.

    Central Michigan Represent!

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

So when its all said and done, the west all star team will only have 2 guards. Steve Nash and Deron Williams (if kobe sits this week, why would he play in the game? and billups just sat on saturday, he may have to pull out too)considering all the “snubs” are bigs

  • http://www.rich-imaging.com Dutch Rich

    Kaman is a beast!!

  • Joe

@niQ: No..That’s not like saying CP3 and Roy didn’t deserve to be on the team. It’s more like the players who deserve to be on the All-Star team, need to be on the All-Star team.

What I am saying is, its funny how every year when there are major snubs, someone always happens to go down with an injury (who is already on the allstar roster)right before the ASG.And the player who got snubbed the first two times around, gets another chance……….I am all for expanding the roster size for the ASG, its not like these guys are trying to log 30-35 min….and since its suppose to be for the fans, why not include more All-stars in the game???

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

Kobe will play and probably gun for the MVP (though, you’re right, nbk, it’s be safest for him to just sit it out).

  • http://myspace.com/datboifabio Fabio

I’m happy to see the dude there!, its ashamed he’s been a clipper all this time, he can really help out a playoff team, I like his fundamentals, right hand hooks, left hand hooks, and jump shots? Solid center!

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

good for him. if the thunder can make a deal for him, they would be title contenders.

  • http://digitalthread.com AlbertBarr

FREE KAMAN. The Durantula and the Caveman. Good 1-2 punch.

  • T.Wroten5

My bad ya’ll. Forgot he was in da west

  • E.

As I said last week. Kaman deserved to be in there before Gasol. I will settle for this.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    Kaman > Gasol.
Its too bad Aaron Brooks and Monta Ellis are snubbed now.

  • davidR

shouldve been a guard for guard. monta got snubbed! ironically, baron davis got snubbed by brandon roy the year after the magical playoff run

  • don

@Joe – because expanding the roster for the teams means that NBA will pay more players for the weekend…

  • tom

kaman makes no sense. Sure he’s playing well, but the clippers don’t even have a winning record.
Roy should’ve been replaced by Aaron brooks who has led the Rockets to a winning record and in the midst of the playoff chase.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

I love it when a good plan comes together *rubs hands*. now about that Allen Iverson…

  • http://www.twitter.com/PDXGayBball dma

how does the west go from too many perennial guards to none – CP3, Nash, Kobe, Roy, Williams, Billups, Parker, Ginobili, Ellis, and sometimes Durant, to 2? I blame Andre Miller.

  • Joe

@don: Its David Stern….he would just divide it evenly, amongst the expanded roster, so it would be the same amount it currently is, but players would be recieve slightly less.

  • clipperfan

Justice is served! He deserved to be in from day! For everyone that is pissed their player got snubbed, blame the Amare and the coaches! There wasn’t a true center on the roster, so it only makes sense to add kaman!

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

TO ALL THE CLOWNS SAYING KAVEMAN´S BETTER THAN GASOL, 21,19,8ass 5BLKS VS THE GREAT TIMMEHH, Kaman deserved the nod though, even if the clips record is what it is.

  • http://dsjfhklf.com Jukai

What the hell does record have to do with anything? I thought the all-star team rewarded the best players, not the luckiest players with the best teams.

  • bnets

another 2003 draftee is an allstar

  • philip

Good for Chris Kaman! He deserves it.

  • tavoris

Jukai-the coaches only picked reserve from teams with winning records. Doesn’t make it ok, but that’s what they did. Stern seems to have MUCH more sense in picking the injury subs.

  • tavoris

Kobe doesn’t pass up a chance to outperform his peers-EVER.Plus, Billuos can’t sit out after complaining about the fan’s voting.

  • Hoodsnake

    @ Jukai: Like Gasol?

  • therighttoremainsalient

the less guards the better for the west – nash for mvp of ASG.

  • ab_40

so kobe and melo are probably gonna be out as well. or they’re gonna make 1 minute cameo’s like a few years back with kobe threatened to be suspended if he didn’t suit up. Are there enough reserves worthy of a spot in the west?

  • http://www.behindtheb.blogspot.com Sam Raphael Chadwick

Im really pleased Chris got the All-Star nod but they are replacing a guard with a forward so therefore I assume Durant is a two guard, I think Monta Ellis would have been a good entertaining replacement or Tyreke Evans :)

  • J

    @hoodsnake: yes.

  • Buschfire

    Bosh > Garnett

  • http://dsjfhklf.com Jukai

    Hoodsnake: Debatably.

  • http://www.acb.com Alan

Now Mr. Gayman can stop crying…

  • http://www.fantasticfansite.com Fontaine

I was looking for the nod to go to Rudy Gay or Monta Ellis… because APPARENTLY records don’t mean anything.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Kaman is having a great year, but like many of you, I feel they shoulda selected another guard.. Parker,B.Davis,Evens,Brooks,Gay (hey, he can go both ways) .

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

    I almost forgot about E.Gordon.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Co-sign Jukai and tavoris. Team records shouldn’t mean that much at all in All-Star games. Since when did All-Star selections become MVP races?

  • nastierthanu

Kaman groupies will be oozing from the rooftops. Hoes aint seen a man that fine since tood mccolough. Aka the big handsome
