Marbury Demands $2 Million in China

Reportedly unhappy with the Shanxi cold weather, Steph has left his team after only a month and a half. Roughly translated (Sina via Hoops Market): “Although the team has confirmed that in Shanxi missed the playoffs, but still praised Marbury is said to be willing to Zachu Shanxi Team 2 million U.S. dollars to retain ‘Baixinho.’ Match against Shanghai, despite the team leader before the race in Shanxi said, ‘do not adapt to the south of the weather, a little cold … …,’ but this has not affected the Marbury play, 34 points 8 rebounds and 8 assists, only 23 voted The hit rate of some 9 unsatisfactory.”

    He’s the best.

  • When I lose this gut I’m gonna cross you up

Vaseline is expensive over there I guess

  • Ghost (of Otis Thorpe)

Marbury and Iverson should have had their own Hoop Dreams

  • http://www.walteriskindacool.blogspot.com BigWalt206

The hit rate of some 9 is indeed unsatisfactory!

    Awesome!

    Can. Not. Comprehend.

  • Ansonpanson

    very bad translation…

  • mike

    What??? does it mean

  • http://www.michaelcho.com M Cho

They need to hire some human translators, not some software. My head hurts from trying to read that.

  • Papa Smurf

I’d rather try to read the Chinese version.

  • D

im confused. Is the team actually willing to offer 2 mil or not?

  • http://slamonline.com Ben Osborne

@ Papa Smurf: have at it…http://blog.sina.com.cn/s/blog_49b030550100i6kb.html?tj=1

  • Papa Smurf

    ha ha,

I can’t understand either of them.

  • Will Lee

The way Iverson and Marbury is acting, in fact made me a Kobe Bryant fan. Time proves everything, Bryant is a hard worker, admit it or not. He’s the best now.

  • riggs

thats not software translated, thats marbury translated.

  • Papa Smurf

    riggs,

He must have been talking to the translator with a mouth full of vaseline.

  • J Roc

Upset over cold weather, Wolves fans have heard that one before…smh

  • The Philosopher

How can Marbury have issues with cold weather when he’s from New York? Marbury has to be careful over there. They will… him. I wonder if he is aware of what kind of entity is in control over there? He’d better get out of there.

  • http://fdjsklf.com Jukai

Hold up everyone, you’re all shocked at the translation, I’m shocked the dude is averaging 34-8-8????? He’s god damn Lebron James in China!!!

  • CSP8

LOL I was lost since “Although”

  • http://fdjsklf.com Jukai

The Philosopher: that was borderline ignorant, man. The Chinese government isn’t going to off an American citizen playing the most popular sport in China because he complained about the weather. Or was that some sort of dull joke?

  • The Philosopher

Jukai; I’m not going to get into that kind of engagement. I don’t want to get banned from SLAM. But, Bruce Lee was an American Citizen, was he not? I’m just saying that Marbury has to be very careful about how he goes about his business over there.

  • NAS

to whoever posted this, if you dont understand the post then dont post it cuz i think no one got anything out of that

  • http://www.michaelcho.com M Cho

@The Philosopher: Maaaaan, I never in a million years thought I’d hear Bruce Lee and Stephon Marbury mentioned together in one comment. You’re messing with the fabric of space/time there, LOL.

  • http://fdjsklf.com Jukai

The Philosopher: What the hell? Bruce Lee? Bruce Lee was an incredible symbol of Chinese nationalism… Wow, I mean, I hope you’re not inferring what I think you’re inferring. Bruce Lee died from a cerebral edema due to a severe reaction from Equagesic. I’d stop frequenting whatever websites you’re frequenting bro… It’s very sad…

  • http://fdjsklf.com Jukai

I really hope Teddy doesn’t see this mess.

  • The Philosopher

@ M Cho: That’s all I had. Jukai was gettin’ me!

  • The Philosopher

Jukai, SLAM is the only site I frequent. And you’re right, Bruce Lee was a hero to the masses, but all I’m going to say is DO YOUR RESEARCH. I really want to school you, but I don’t want to get banned from SLAM.

  • wilz

oooo the philospher is gonna go all matt barnes on jukai

  • Teddy-the-Bear

LOL too late, Jukai. Philosopher has said some dumb sh!t before though, so I’m not going to respond.
However, I am curious to know what sort of hilarious conspiracy theories Philosopher can come up with. Ah, the internet.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

You pretty much said all that needed to be said in response to his ignorant comments though, Jukai. Thanks.

  • LA Huey

This post made no sense but I loved it. Keep up the great work!

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

MY Lakers need a point guard, he is averaging 34-8-8, get the China Starbury.

  • The Philosopher

This guy Teddy the Bear. You have no idea. For a guy who posts comments on the internet, you’re pretty high on yourself. A self proclaimed smart person. Smart people you can’t educate. They already know everything. So, they post comments on the internet and judge not theirselves, but everyone else. You try to judge like you’re self secure when you’re not.

  • The Philosopher

One could wonder if Teddy the Bear has self confidence. It doesn’t seem like it. Does Teddy have to convince themself that their important? They try to use the computer for that because in their househoud they’re irrelevant.

I could use the Magic Hohnson translator machine right about now.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

Hey guys, what up from Shenzhen. The translation was simultaneously terrible and hilarious.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

    Hello. Testing.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

Great! What up peoples from Shenzhen.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

Well, since I’m pretty sure there are many more of you guys who are genuinely interested in how Steph is doing than there are ignorant “贤者” wannabes around, I’m going to try n translate it.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

The first paragraph is some kung fu novel reference. Apparently Steph’s nickname is the “Lone Wolf”, probably a mix of his reputation and his early success as a T-Wolf. Ridiculous as it sounds in English, it goes along the lines of “the pugilistic world has invited Marbury, leader of the ‘Lone Wolf Sect’ to the annual kung fu meet where swords will let fly”.

  • tomtom

I understand that he plays in china now. But did this f**king thing have to be written as if you have never spoke a word of English before? Jesus. Standards SLAM please…

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

The body of the article goes like this. “The Shanxi team failed to make the postseason, but Marbury still got a lot of praise – Shanxi is reported willing to pay USD $2m to keep the “Lone Wolf”. The southern Shanghai climate did not affect Marbury’s play, and he put up 34 points, 8 boards and 8 assists against Shanghai, but only hit 9 of 23 shots in a ‘merely passable’ shooting performance.”

It goes on to say that Marbury has some history with Shanghai – he originally wanted to play for Shanghai, since it was Yao Ming’s old team, but couldn’t since their roster already was at the ‘foreign talent’ limit.

“Marbury’s arrival in Shanxi answered the team’s urgent “call of distress”, where he instantly became the CBA’s biggest foreign talent. Marbury quickly overcame an initial adjustment period, and his steadily improving play gave Shanxi a tangible hope to make the playoffs. Unforuntately, the team’s overall talent level wasn’t enough, and their hopes were dashed.”

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

The article ends off on a bittersweet note. “Despite the disappointment of not making the playoffs, Marbury has only garnered praise and admiration. His reputation of being being a “weird, me-first, headstrong trash-talker” did not fit this seemingly reformed Marbury. Everyone who worked with Marbury had only good things to say about him. If only Marbury could hold himself like this in the NBA, what would his future be? Perhaps last summer’s misguided experience has caused the ‘Lone Wolf’ to be reborn.” The writer then says that the Shanxi team still has serious issues, particularly with their interior play – allowing opponents Shanghai to wreak havoc in the paint – and that adding a decent big man would make the playoffs not just a dream for them. It concludes poignantly that Marbury, as with his “Lone Wolf” monicker, is again “alone”. This probably points at Steph’s status as the sole decent player on his mediocre squad.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

Ouch. Excuse the typos. But it looks like Starbury is doing fine. I hope he “gets it” and goes back to the L on a winner.

  • mike

JOEL O’S . THANK YOU VERY MUCH. i appreciate you doin that for everyone. and Jukai and The Philosopher, thanx for keeping the comments interesting.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

@mike: No problem man, I’m here to brush up my Mandarin anyway, so reading up on Steph’s exploits was icing on the cake.
