Golden Hoops to Return to the City’s Streets
One of NYC’s most exalted summer basketball tournaments from the ’80s and ’90s will be making its return to notoriety this summer when the New York Daily News brings back “Golden Hoops.” The event was well touted back in the day but with time fell into obscurity after the AAU scene grew bigger and grassroots teams began traveling coast-to-coast to tournaments around the country consistently on the weekends. On August 8th, the top 40 prospects from the metro area will attempt to revive the once highly praised outdoors game when they go to battle at Edmonds Playground in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Coaching these all-star teams will be New York’s own Kenny Anderson, Kenny Smith and Epiphany Prince.
