Austin Rivers Eliminates Florida from Options

After verbally committing to the University of Florida as a freshman, Austin Rivers, one of the top seniors in the nation and son of Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers is no longer considering the University of Florida as a college option. Rivers, a 6-4 guard has narrowed his college list to North Carolina, Duke, and Kansas. He will take an official visit to Chapel Hill on October 8th, followed by one to Duke on the 15th and the Jayhawks on the 22nd.

Dude’s got talent, so which of the three coaches are gonna be best and helping his game evolve? As much as it pains me to say, I think Duke. Debate.

He will be perfect for the bluedevils, it’s not even funny

Just think if Kyrie Irving stays and he goes to Duke. WOW best backcourt in recent history. Also with all thos Plumlee brothers and Seth Curry. Duke is stacked! Too bad I hate Duke but they are gonna be fun to watch. 2011 NCAA champions? Wouldn’t bet against them especially with Singler in his senior year

  • luv2ball

If he wants to be NBA ready he should stay away from Duke. If he wants an NCAA title, then DUke is the place to go. For the record, I hate Duke. I can’t stand Christian Laetner. I do like Grant Hill but that is where it stops.

If you wanna be a stud pro and start at whatever position from day 1….Carolina. If you dont wanna be hated just because…..Carolina. If you want a legitimate shot at a title…..Carolina.

If you want to suck as a pro, Duke. Coach K’s systems breeds da sorriest pros you know it….why play yourself?

UNC, though it pains me to say he would thrive in duke’s system. kansas might help him get nba ready more soon than unc or duke

With his talent, it would be hard to not want to play for Coach K, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Michigan State pops up as his next destination.

Kyle Singler and (probably) Kyrie Irving won’t be around at Duke next year, so they’re irrelevant as far as this is concerned. Seth Curry might bounce too. But at UNC he’ll have James McAdoo, P.J. Hairston, Reggie Bullock will probably still be there, Kendall Marshall (Harrison Barnes will be ghost). I think 2011-2012 UNC w/ Austin Rivers > 2011-2012 Duke w/ Austin Rivers.

I think UNC actually has the edge in title hopes in ’11-’12. Duke has the better coach by far (sorry Roy). UNC has the Carolina family that he’ll be a part of for life, following in the footsteps of decades of respected ballers and hoops legends for whom Carolina will always be home. And prettier girls. I have a feeling he’s a Dukie

I am a UNC fan, but don’t like Roy Williams coaching style so I would have to say Kansas would be the best place for him to go to have free reign like Collins did to become a star. BOOK IT!!

getting a commitment from a hs freshman is a freaking waste of time. kids can’t even decide what they want for breakfast at that age, what’s the point? / i don’t really think it matters where he goes, he’ll be there for one year. he could go to any top 25 program, wouldnt change a thing.

I am a UNC fan but both UNC and Duke would go well with his style of play. He loves to get up and down like UNC and he has a great halfcourt game. They are both really good coaches so no loss there.

  • ClydeSays

Depends on what he wants. If it’s a decent education & a cup of coffee in the NBA, then Duke is the way to go. UNC and Kansas seem to turn out more guys that have successful NBA careers…

im a duke fan….but i want to see him prosper as an nba star..so with that saying in seeing collins last year ill say kansas…BOOK IT !

  • hendry

if he really wants to be a top 10 pick, he should join kentucky… look at the guards that play for coach cal the last 3 years, no 1 pick, no 4 pick, no 1 pick..

As a current student, I would love for Rivers to come to Kansas. And in all honesty, not trying to sound bias, but Bill Selfs coaching style is set up to prepare for the NBA. We’ve already decided Selby will most likely be another one and done (If he passes eligibility), but the idea of Rivers and the Morris twins running together in Allen Fieldhouse is absolutely mouth watering.
