Timberwolves Owner Not Worried About Contraction

The head boss in Minny did the smart thing by assuring his fanbase that his team won’t be wiped off the NBA map. From the Star Tribune: “Before Wednesday’s season opener, Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor said his team’s fans need not worry about something that probably is negotiating posture and concept for now. ‘I can say that Minnesota is not one of the teams that would be contracted, nor do we expect that in the future,’ Taylor said, sounding somewhat surprised at the question. Taylor said there’s ‘a serious problem in that we have to make the league more profitable’ and said contraction was offered as a possible solution at last week’s NBA Board of Governors meetings. He also said that few teams would be interested in the idea.”

I think losing 4 teams would be good for the league. I’ve already lost 2 teams due to relocation, (I live in Vancouver, B.C. so the Sonics were my first team and the Griz were here for a time). It would be tough to be in charge of picking the teams to go though.

    I vote:
Minny – only a great draft pick has ever made them relevant.

Clippers – I actually love the Clips but having two teams in the same arena is stupid

Charlotte – If your city lets a team walk you shouldn’t get a new one

Clevland – They will never be relevant again

Sorry for the spelling – my kids are driving me mental while I’m trying to drink my morning cup-o-joe and read Slam

Not sure fewer teams is really a good idea. If so these should probably be it:

Clippers (due to the 2 teams one city argument)

    Nets (same here)

Kings (second lowest attendance last year and we already have a couple Cali based teams)

Pacers (second lowest east attendance, no NBA fans only NCAA fans there)

Still I think it would be a bad idea. I´m all for cutting games though. Make it simple one home and away game against every other team. 58 games, every game counts and no crappy divisions.

I like the idea of a few less regular season games, more games played within the division and fewer road trips. That will help build rivalries, cut travel costs and potentially drive up attendance.

the headline should read: Timberwolves Owner Not Worried about Contraction; Looking Forward to it, Actualy.

If Sternbot 2K11 is smart, he won’t contract Minnesota. Without them, the NBA loses its version of Siberia. You can’t threaten a misbehaving young player without Sibe-er, Minnesota. It just wouldn’t be proper.
