Unbeaten No More, Louisville Falls to Drexel

by David Cassilo / @dcassilo

It didn’t take too long for Oakland to get some competition for biggest upset of the night. About two hours after the Golden Grizzlies knocked off unbeaten Tennessee, Drexel matched their effort with an upset of its own over unbeaten Louisville.

The Dragons won a low-scoring affair, 52-46, to be the first team to defeat Louisville in the brand new KFC Yum! Center. Perhaps most surprising was that Drexel was able to do it with a less than stellar effort from its leading scorer Chris Fouch, who managed just 10 points, despite entering the contest at 22.4 ppg. Senior guard Gerald Colds picked up the slack for him scoring a season-high 20 points.

For Rick Pitino it didn’t matter who was scoring, his team lost for one simple reason.

From The Louisville Courier-Journal:

“We lost the game because we didn’t rebound,”coach Rick Pitino said. “Very simple stat. We got our deflections, we didn’t turn it over and the fact that we didn’t shoot well was OK because they didn’t shoot well. We just got outrebounded 46-26 and that pretty much tells the story of why we lost.”

Obviously, though, this is a big win for Drexel. At 7-1 and with a quality road win like this, the Dragons have had an almost ideal start to its non-conference schedule. They might get another shot to knock off an unbeaten when they travel to Syracuse on Dec. 22. With Drexel, VCU, Old Dominion and George Mason, the CAA might be shaping up to be a multi-bid league.
