All-Star ’11: Third Balloting Returns

Blake Griffin may be the most popular rookie since LeBron James. The young highlight reel has steadily jumped up the list of Western Forwards. Three weeks ago, the Clippers rookie was sixth. Today, the NBA announced that Blake moved ahead of Tim Duncan. Will he pass Dirk? Will KG start his 14th All-Star game? Will SLAM 145′s slender cover boy hold on to his slender lead above Chicago dynamo Derrick Rose?

We’ll find out when voting ends in a week!

Rose v Rondo, this is gonna be close

  • http://psp2423@yahoo.com Eboy

Still no love for Deron Williams man he is the best point guard in the league and he is getting no votes. How about Yao ming still getting votes this is pathetic Cant the west put Gasol or Duncon on the center ballot? Its good that Griffen is getting love in the ballot he’s been playing like a all star all this season.

  • MikeC.

No love for Ray Felton? Seriously? I’m not saying he should be the starter ahead of Wade, Rondo or Rose, but Felton should be 4th based on quality of play and team.
@Eboy – I agree about Williams. He should be #2 behind Kobe for Western guards, because, let’s face it, nobody is catching Kobe.

  • westeves25

Hopefully Rondo wins it out….. Dude is a QB on the basketball court, very few can do what he does and how he does it……(at least in the east)

  • MikeC.

Man, that forward spot in the West is deep! Many analysts have Dirk in their top-3 for MVP candidates, and dude is 6th in All-Star votes for the forward spot. I think Keven Love would get more votes if the T-Wolves were actually on TV every now and then. For most people, the only thing they know about Love is that his name is on the ESPN ticker every night with some near-impossible rebound total.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

2:45p wasn’t me. I think the game itself is going to be a joke. The East is going to destroy the West cats. The potential starting lineup (depending on who gets in between Rondo and Rose) is going to be ugly…..in a destroyer type of way.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

I don’t think its gonna be a lopsided game because every spot is about equal except for the Center spot and I think the West may have an advantage at the point guard and small forward positions with Melo, Durant.

  • Bruno

    don’t think so

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

Rondo, Wade, James, Stoudemire, Howard vs Paul, Bryant, Durant, Anthony, (Non-existent Center). I like the East’s chances.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

If Rose starts, the game may be over, theoretically, in the 1st quarter. The speed of him, Wade and Lebron is going to be dizzying.

  • Bruno

    cosign what kap said

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

Deron Williams, Blake Griffin, Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum, Ginobili is a better bench than what the East has.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

and damn I forgot about Dirk. And the above bench is just an assumption from me. I think the NBA may move Gasol to Center for starters to make sure Blake Griffin makes the team. Don’t think Bynum will make it this yr.

  • http://www.facebook.com 9steele9

lol at jamal crawford having more votes than joe johnson

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

    East Starters > West Starters

  • A

In my opinion, lets let Amar’e Stoudemire catch up to Garnett, cause I’d rather have him playing. Hes a rebound monster and a fantastic shooter.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

Ironic how heat fans are saying how the East has so much of an advantage.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Ironic how Laker fans are saying how the West has so much of an advantage.

    Love before Griffin.

  • barnabusb

The John Wall hype has kind of fizzled out, huh?

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

We wanna see amazing dunks and highlights in the all star game not solid rebounding which is why I think Griffin should make it over Love.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

    DERON. WILLIAMS. IS. AN. ALL-STAR.
    F*ckin’ idiot fans…
And imagine a Derrick Rose/Dwyane Wade/LeBron James/Amare Stoudemire/Dwight Howard starting lineup for the east?
Dunk after dunk after dunk after dunk after….

  • barnabusb

We need an all-fundamentals team! Al Jefferson, Kevin Love, Arron Afflalo, James Harden, and Deron Williams vs. Brook Lopez, Al Horford, Tayshaun Prince, John Salmons, and Ray Felton.

  • will

Would a Rose,Wade,James, stoudemire,Howard starting five be the most athletic 5 in all star history?

  • http://www.twitter.com/AllBall247 AllBall247

Enigmatic, D Will is going to be an all star. He will just be coming off the bench backing up the man of steel CP. don’t make me go looking for some other obscure stats to prove my point! lol.

  • http://counterkicks.com Q

vote for K love you fools

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Is bynum really going to start in the all star game???????????

  • Q

I love how everyone is making a huge deal about Rose in the lineup w/ D. Wade, James etc, not that he’s not great and all. But, has anyone seen this guy Rondo play I mean seriously, he’s a beast.

  • Q.D.

Oh, and I’m not the same Q as above, sorry wasn’t trying to take your post name. I used Q.D. this time.

  • Q

Not the same Q. as above, sorry about that, but yeah K. Love def deserves major love too.

    Q.D.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Because that lineup would be athletic as f*ck Q/Q.D./Q whatever your name is.
Everyone of those cats can bang one on your head.

Rondo is a beast….if you look past his jumper

Don’t let the fans vote anymore! Yao leading centers, Deron Williams getting no love…

  • frank

kap and eboy…that isn’t irony. thats the opposite of irony.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Jamal Crawford has more votes then Joe Johnson?? And the West centers is almost laughable, they outta use Duncan, Griffin, or someone else to play this position..

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

Hey I have Deron Williams as a starter in my book

  • slamfan4life

D.Rose better catch up 2 Rajon

  • http://sjfklfsl.com Jukai

hahahaha did anyone catch Kap saying Bynum was going to be an all-star? Jesus, he doesn’t even hide it.

  • http://sjfklfsl.com Jukai

Starting lineup for east: Rose (he’ll catch up), Wade, Lebron, Garnett, Howard…
Bench: Rondo, Johnson, Granger, Stoudemire, Bogut, Pierce…. and uh… Boozer or Horford.
Starting lineup for west: Paul, Kobe, Durant, Gasol (he’ll catch up), Duncan as injury replacement
Bench: Deron, Manu, Carmello, Griffin, Nash, Love, Ellis
    Agree/disagree?

  • http://psp2423@yahoo.com Eboy

@Jukai if your right then the West has an advantage in the All Star game but the Center position is so weak.

  • Scott

    Jukai…Where is Dirk?

  • paul

Rondo’s magnificent game against the Spurs hasn’t changed any minds, it seems. He doesn’t score 20/game, so he must be a lesser player.

  • Scott

Also, get rid of Ellis and add Westbrook.

  • Scott

Replace Ellis with Westbrook and Love with Nowitzki. Rest is spot on.

  • barnabusb

If I was drafting my team today, I’d pick Rondo over Rose 10 out of 10 times.

  • bashmo

Annnddddd I arrive to see more people claiming DWill should have the spot over CP. LISTEN people I know Dwill is having a great season scoring, but he is not putting up the same numbers as CP3 in any other aspect than scoring the ball. Sure he puts up 22 a game, but CP3s efficiency on both end of the floor and excellent shooting percentages give him the edge…the man is scoring 17 a game, 10 dimes, 3 steals, while shooting 49% from the field and 45% from downtown..AND 90% from the charity stripe…face it, best PG in basketball. The Jazz may be winning, but that is merely a testament to their squad’s depth…CP3 also leads the league in Assists/TO..all this averaging only 11.5 FGA/game..come on, really the best PG in the L.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Yao has almost twice as many votes as the next center on the list. ROFL.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Question: Are/Is Kevin Love and/or Luis Scola All-Stars?

  • http://Slamonline.com Kap

Duncan doesn’t deserve to make the team and sure don’t wanna see Love in an all star game. I would give Odom the nod over those two.

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

    Oh for f*ck’s sake…..

  • DEV

Bargnani should be Easts backup center. Hes the highest scoring center in the friggin NBA! How is SHAQ ahead of him? BIASED FAN VOTING! Just look at the Yao scenario for Gods sake!

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Kap cannot be serious.
And paul fans are lime cult members.

  • add

why is yao an all star?????

  • Noel

    Monta Ellis is an All-Star

  • T-Money

bosh will make it, i think.

  • Justin

Centers don’t matter in All Star games anyway. If the game gets up and down the floor as it should then centers are meaningless because they’ll rarely cross center. The East does have a pretty devastating lineup and Howard can get up and down the floor if he wants, running those other centers out of the building.

  • http://sjfklfsl.com Jukai

I need to send and apology letter to Dirk. Can’t believe I forgot about him. I’d replace Ellis/Duncan with Dirk.
I can’t see putting Westbrook on the squad. Sorry.
Love needs to be on there. I don’t care how boring he is. 21-16 is ridiculous. Who was the last person to put up those numbers? Garnett?

  • http://www.twitter.com/AllBall247 AllBall247

Come on now, if you don’t watch CP regularly, don’t sell him short.

  • http://ej! Max

Shaq should be the east backup center, just for entertainment.

  • DeeDre

I think Amare is gonna overtake Garnett for the East forward spot, especially since the injury of Garnett. And the Rondo Rose battle is goin down to the wire. I wont be surprised if its only seperated by a couple thousand votes when its all said and done. Chicago has a larger population and market than Boston but Boston has more fans across the country than Chicago. We shall see

  • kelseytiny32

I’ve been with Blake Griffin since Sports Illustrated did a preseason article on him and the Sooners back when he was a sophomore, thank god I waited for you even after the injury. Knew you would make it if you could get through Frank Matrisciano workouts.
