Washington Dominates ‘Zona to Keep Pac-10 Lead

by David Cassilo / @dcassilo

Quietly, Lorenzo Romar has put together one of strongest programs in the nation since he came to Washington. The Huskies have been a perennial NCAA tournament team under Romar, and he once again has them atop the Pac-10 this season.

What was billed as a game between the conference’s top two teams quickly became one-sided when Washington took the lead at the 14-minute mark of the first half and never gave it back. With 22 points each, Justin Holiday and Isaiah Thomas led the way for the Huskies as they trounced Arizona, 85-68, moving them to 6-1 in the Pac-10.

For Washington, this was the statement it was looking to make.

From The Seattle Post-Intelligencer:

“It’s better to stay at the top than to have to fight for it,” Holiday said. “If we can keep doing this and keep getting wins, keep playing what we’re playing, we’re going to be fine. Getting this win is going to help us tremendously.”

The Pac-10 is poised for another down year. It won’t be as bad as last year’s, but the conference has a long way to go to get to the level of even the Mountain West. Regardless, the Huskies are once again tournament-quality and should give the Pac-10 its only shot of making noise in March.

I’m glad someone else is out here paying attention to UDubb putting in work. Zeke, Holiday, and Amaning are housing the Pac-10 right now. Feel bad for AZ, they should be a top 15 program right now, but Coach Miller’s still got some work to do.
