Jim Calhoun Suspended for 3 Games… Next Season

UConn head coach Jim Calhoun has been suspended for three Big East games next season after being cited by the NCAA for violations, which included allegations that former UConn recruit Nate Miles’s expenses were paid by former UConn team manager Josh Nochimson. Miles never suited up for the Huskies after being expelled for allegedly assaulting a female student. It’s believed that more than $6,000 improper recruiting inducements, in addition to impermissible phone calls and texts to recruits also made up the case. As part of the NCAA’s penalties, UConn received scholarship reductions, recruiting restrictions, permanent disassociation of a booster at the center of investigation, a two-year show-cause order on UConn former operations director Beau Archibald and three years of probation. The Huskies self-imposed penalties include two-year scholarship reductions and two years of probation. The suspension for Calhoun was set for next season so that he could have a chance to appeal.

Seems like Calhoun and company dodged a bullet in this one.

Either guys like Roy Williams and Coach K really are saints, or they’re really good at hiding their shadiness, cause it seems like all kinds of coaches been getting caught lately.

    NCAA is joke.
And you’re a joke if you disagree, with all due respect.
When players screw up, they get punished in the same year. Coaches get their punishments deferred in the interest of appeal.
If you don’t see the problem, you ain’t looking.

I love Calhoun and the Huskies, but this is probably minor compared to the abuse of most major programs. I wish they’d just pay these kids a salary and be done with all the b.s.

This is what they got caught doing, it isn’t everything they did.
Hell Kelvin Sampson got a crazy suspension for sending text messages.

    I actually agree, AllenP.
NCAA is a joke. The broke players get their very futures taken away from them.
The millionaire coaches get a slap on the wrist.

Nate Miles…I wonder what ever came of this young man. From what I heard he was drafted by Sioux Falls in the D-League…don’t know if he’s even still on a roster….man, I feel it for that kid. Hopefully he can find some work overseas; from all I know he’s got the talent to play professional ball at some level

Yeah Calhoun’s a good guy, whatever dirt is on his hands pales in comparison to whats going on at some other programs…but he really did muff this one up man….I just feel it for the kid Nate Miles we never get to hear his side of the story

I love NCAA basketball it’s just so pure, you know? The players, coaches, and ADs are in it for the same single reason the fans are: THE LOVE OF THE GAME. A game so beautiful Chuck Norris almost shed a tear for it.
