Young Money Releasing All-Star Weekend Mixtape

Rick Ross may be performing at a show in L.A. this All-Star Weekend, but Lil Wayne and Young Money have taken it a step further, as YM is set to release The Official Young Money All Star Weekend 2K11 mixtape. While the DJ Drama and Dirty Yella-hosted tape hasn’t hit the net yet, “Money in my Pocket” (remix), has. Oh, and it looks like Derrick Rose may make a little guest appearance somewhere on the tape.

I feel sorry for this generation coming up that thinks this is hip hop. I feel even worse for the people my age who think the same.

  • Riggs

also, this is a horrible photoshop job (why would there be lens flare inside the text? come on).

I’m 23 and a huge rap and hip hop fan. And I don’t give a deam what people used to listen in the late 80′s and early 90′s. If you like it, leave it alone

  • http://slamonline.com Susan Price

    Dear Mr. Young Money,

This is Susan. I’m the Managing Editor at SLAM. Among other things, I read all the stories that make it into the mag. I’m pretty good at it. I often spot mistakes in spelling. Those spelling mistakes often happen with players’ names. I mean, Hamady N’Diaye isn’t John Smith, right? But Mr. YM, No. 1 on the Bulls is Derrick, not Derek. How about next time you put out a mix tape, just email me the cover and I’ll proof it for you. For free. Cause I’m nice like that.

  • Bruno

    susan is not #5

  • http://www.twitter.com/_K_O _K_O

ha, what a call out. susan is jokes.

  • BxBaller

Am I the only one who thought this was going to be about a Brandon Jennings highlight mix?

  • http://slamonline.com Yknot

MUBWAR you just proved Riggs’ point.

  • fruizm

    whos Derek Rose??

  • Joe Shmoe

Shouldn’t JR Smith be on the cover since he has a YM tattoo on his throat? Burn…

  • R. Deahn

I heard he is making an appearance with Cobe Bryant. WOMP WOMPPP.

  • Jer Boi

    they spelled Roses name wrong…sad

Co-sign riggs. F*ck young$ and this generations so called “hip hop”

@mubwar. U know that there was nice hip hop music prior 2 yr 2k right? I suggest u look n2 it. What u call hip hop or rap 2day, sorry 2 burst ur bubble, is not unfortunately. Music, overall is n a sad, sad state

  • TheBarberShop

I wish these fools had their vocal chords taken away.. seriously. also, I can’t believe Rose would lower himself by listening to this so called ‘music’.

  • Riggs

I’m not even talking about the 80′s and 90′s (Even though i mostly listen to those albums right now). I’m talking about dudes that are out right now that are being overlooked because garbage like these cats are given the spotlight. If this mixtape was filled with lupe fiasco jay electronica and some slaughterhouse then i wouldnt even say a damn thing. anyways, my 2 cents.

  • fruizm

most of these pro athletes listen to this garbage……that statement that music is in a bad state is not true…you just have to look for it, there are tons of great artists out there!…just stop watching BET and MTV.

  • hamond

Actually, there’s quite a bit of good music out there right now. I’m not saying Young Money is good music, but for all those ppl who says hip hop is in a sad state right now, I disagree. Guys like J. Cole, Freddie Gibbs, XV are bringing lyrics and flow back. I think the people who are saying that rap was better back in the 80′s and 90′s just haven’t had a chance to listen to some of the lesser names out there. Because all they’re being exposed to are the mainstream “dumb it down” artists. I’m actually very excited about the future of hip hop, because I think it was very lame about 2, 3 years ago, but it’s heading in the right direction now.

Try listening to J. Cole’s “The Warm Up” Mixtape or XV’s “Everybody’s Nobody” mixtape if you haven’t already. They are so talented and skilled, you can’t listen to the tape and tell me that the upcoming generation of hip hop doesn’t look promising.

  • hoodsnake

They should get Officer Ricky and Drake on the mixtape. Talentless fake tough guys of the rap game

  • http://Philosophervision@blogspot.com The Philosopher

    Shout out to Biggie.

Man. Im 2 old 2 b watching bet or mtv. And like I said, its music overall. Not just hip-hop. Ol skool r and b > than 2days r and b. Classic rock from 70′s thru the 90′s a million times better. From REM, Foo Fighters, The Cranberries to Guns n Roses, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers. I can go on and on. U just cant argue against that

Just 4 argument sake: KRS One, Big L, Biggie, younger Jigga, Jeru Tha Damaja, Grandmaster Flash, Rakim, Marley Marl >>>>>>> than j cole or any other artist out there 2day that ya’ll can come up with, mainstream or not. And that’s just 2 name a few

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jay

Allen Iverson’s impact lives on forever. Thank AI for making the NBA hip-hop cant wait to hear this .

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

Who’s Young Money? I’m not even trying to be a smartass, I honestly never heard of dude.
I HATE today’s mainstream rap also. But, my take on it is, rap music now is kinda going through what rock music went through where you had all the classic rock bands of the 60′s and 70′s, like Led Zeppellin and them cats, and then in the 80′s all those hair metal bands came out with their goofy clothes and goofy songs.
Let these youngins have their “rap music”. Long as I have a copy of Nas’ Illmatic, Biggie’s Ready to Die, etc. I’ll be aight.

  • http://slamonline.com Jay

At enigmatic. how you hate mainstream rap if you dont even know the rappers. thats like me saying i hate british musicians and I dont know who they are. dont be a hater just cause, if you listen to them and dont like them thats something else. if you dont know them, then shutup. annoying as old skool cats, smh

  • http://www.yougotdunkedon.com LilKDub503

    Derek Rose. LOL.

Don’t 4get the brown rappers as well. Delinquent Habits, Control Machete, a young Lil Rob, A lighter shade of brown, NBK, just 2 name a few

    ^old skool brown rappers

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

hammer, j.cole is pretty damn good. dont let the old school bias blind you

  • http://slamonline.com rudy

oh my god, Lil Rob? LMAO never thought I’d see that name on this website.

2 b fair, I have heard j cole. He aiight. But u can’t tell me that he better than ANY of the rappers I mentioned b4. And I wouldn’t say he damn good neither. Compared 2 gucci mane? Yes. He is better than gucci. But don’t act like j cole is better than even rappin 4 Tay, B Real, Mac Mall or Cannibus

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

I’m 16, and I’ll be the first to say I don’t like Young Money at all, I listen to Lupe Fiasco,Eminem , Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Nas and stuff like that. I actually listen to almost every genre

  • fruizm

HAMMER how the hell do you know control machete??? (im from mex city by the way)

@rudy. I said a YOUNG Lil Rob. Not that “Summer Nights” bs. Go back 2 the 90′s and then you’ll know what im talkin bout. Go listen 2 “The outcome” “Wicki wicked” “No soy de ti” or “High till I die”. Do that then we can talk

@fruizm. Wussup paisa! Im paisa 2. That’s how I know em. “Comprendes mendes”? Haha! El Morro messed up that classic! Luv control machete. Last I heard from them was when Fermin did his solo “Agente 004″. They were a gr8 trio no doubt

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

OK Jay, you f*ckin genius, Just cause I said I don’t know who Young Money is, you gonna assume I haven’t heard any of the piece of sh*t “music” that’s constantly polluting the airwaves?
I mean, does “Young Money” suddenly have the whole rap game on lock that he’s the only mainstream rapper out now?
I’m only 26 years old, but if that makes me an “annoying ass old school cat”, whatever, I’ll bee dat.
@Hammer & fruizim – pinches paisas! fruizim’s a chilango! I rep Guanajuato, btw. Kind of. I mostly consider myself American now cause I been here since I was 4.
Oh and co-sign davidR. J. Cole is on point. Has that cat finally released his album yet?

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

not yet, enig. it’d be interesting to see how mainstream handles him, cause we see how it handled drake. damn shame cause dude is pretty talented too.
hammer, i’m from the bay. rappin4tay is cool, but there’s NO WAY he’s a better rapper than jcole. and cmon, you’re naming some of the all-time greatest to ever grace the mic. this dude cole is just starting. give him a chance cause he is definitely better than just alright. i won’t claim he’s already one of the greatest, but seriously, don’t sleep on him

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

also, mac mall.. 4tay.. hammer.. you must have ties to the bay?

@davidr. Don’t agree that j cole > than 4 tay @ this point in time. But agreed that we should give him time. And no. Im not from the bay. I live n oregon but I luv bay area music and all gr8 music no matter what part of the map it comes

    ^comes from

I’ve been away from the office for so long I forgot how great Susan Price is. LOVED her post. That said, Lil Wayne is overrated as hell; Drake is an average rapper. “Last name, Greatest/first name, Ever.” You’re on a record with Kanye, Weezy and Eminem, and you open it with that line? LAAAAMMMEE!!! Nicki Minaj got a fake booty, but her style is entertaining. She got hers on “Roman’s Revenge.” Baby’s a bird. And I don’t mean that in the complimentary way in which he refers to himself. I mean it in the New York way.

But to each his own. I remember a few years ago I met this cat from the Bay area who swore up and down that E-40 was a better MC than Big Pun. ’nuff said!

  • O

My bad, Drake said, “Last name, Ever/First name, Greatest.” It’s still bad though…

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

@DavidR – Drake can’t compare lyrically to J. Cole. I never understood why people always wanna compare the two. They kind of look alike but that’s about it. Cole is a way better lyricist though.
@HAMMER – Check out J. Cole’s “Lights Please”, “Dead Presidents II”, “Simba”, “Villmatic” and his verse on Wale’s “Beautiful Bliss” for some examples of how nice he is on the mic. He’s not on Big’s or Nas’ level but he’s pretty good.

  • Hurricane

Freddie Gibbs > Your Favorite Rapper

  • O

I miss Hip-Hop. R.I.P. “Urban entertainment” will never take your place. J. Cole, Jay Electronica, Saigon (who has an album dropping) and cats like that just don’t get the love today’s cRappers do. I mean honestly, why is Yelawolf on the XXL cover with Eminem and Slaughterhouse?

  • ab40

lil wayne makes my ears blead

Thanx Enigmatico. I’ve heard “We on” and “Blow up” 2 name a couple. Like I said, he aiight. I like his verse of that hip hop like santa clause cuz no 1 believes in it no more. But only time will tell how gr8 or good he will b

  • Towelie

Am I the only one here who thinks that YM artists are ‘teenybopper rappers’?

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Saigon’s finally dropping an album? Word? Consider it copped.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/officerbarbrady what

There’s plenty of good hip hop out right now, and I’ll even go as far as to say Drake is pretty talented, but most of his music and the rest of YM’s music is terrible, and Lil Wayne sounds like a frog with emphysema. Coming from someone who would be just fine if the only music in the world was Outkast and Wu-Tang.

  • EC

REKS is the best MC right now. The R.E.K.S(Rhythmatic Eternal King Supreme) album and the “In between the lines” vol. 1&2 mixtapes are all dope as hell. The SHOW OFF crew> young money AKA the mickey mouse club of hip-pop..

  • http://slamonline.com biged

y’all know young money is a group right?! Everyone on the cover is in Young Money (wayne, drake, nicki, tyga, etc…) except Rose of course.

  • DeeDre

@ Enigmatic- Young Money is a group not a guy. It consists of Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj and a bunch of other people you probably don’t care about. And yes Saigons album is called Greatest story never told

  • Kas

@ riggs i feel sorry for people who cares about hip-hop at all, old or new

  • KennyD

Young Money is a music group that consist of Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj, & others. That’s for the idiots that think Young Money is a person smh. But i still agree they are horrible and D-Rose is stupid for making an appearance on this type of horrible rap music.

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

    I’m so sorry, KennyD.
How dare I not know who “Young Money” are and who they consist of.
I am indeed an idiot for not having that knowledge.
I feel like I now possess so much more wisdom now that you dropped that knowledge on me, despite being like the fourth person who said that, but the only one who was a d*ck about it.
@Deedre- thanks for the explanation. Now I know why Drake is going on about “young money, young money” on that song on 2K11 I always feel compelled to mute.

  • http://slamonline.com nate

I Think its good for Derrick Rose to appear on Young Money event. Yall may think there music suck but they Make hits and sell albums so how much you hate them they gettting there money . D.Rose better take this chance I believe some players are mad right now its not them
