Lockout Forces Motiejunas to Rejoin Old Team

The Houston Chronicle is reporting that Rockets‘ rook Donatas Motiejunas will take his talents back to Europe while the NBA straightens out its lockout situation: “Hours before the NBA locked out its players, Rockets rookie Donatas Motiejunas returned to Italy on Thursday expecting to rejoin his previous team. Motiejunas expects to accept an offer from Benetton Treviso to resume his career there for the duration of the NBA lockout and perhaps through next season. Just a week after he joined the Rockets in a draft-night deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Motiejunas, 20, left Houston to resume training in Treviso. ‘I still have a contract with Benetton,’ said Motiejunas, the 20th player taken in the NBA draft. ‘They told me if I want to leave in the middle of the season when the team that took me, Houston, wants me, they would let me go. That will be no problem. That’s why I’m happy, and a little bit sad. The situation is very tough right now. I don’t really want to go away from the team. I’m not happy about that. That was one of the greatest things that happened in my life, that this team picked me.’”

@ brandon. It’s a joke from when LeBron said that he was going to take his talents to south beach and play for the Miami Heat. He said this in “The Decision” which took place on ESPN in July 2010.

it will be interesting to see if many teams dont sign their rookies to contracts and allow them to go play in europe instead

    smart move, better than sitting

@JD: Teams can’t sign their rookies, because there is no CBA. I feel bad for the Americans in limbo right now. Actually, what does the lockout mean for the D-League? A lot of questions remain.

Another overrated European runs back to play eurosoft at the first sign of trouble.

@JTaylor21, so if you were him, you would rather stay in america and not play competitive basketball and not earn a paycheck? He’s doing the smart thing in going back to Italy and getting paid cause when the lockout is resolved he is allowed to leave the team immediately to come back to the NBA

Surprising… unfounded and undue criticism by JTaylor of a player’s decision in the face of sound judgment and well-placed reasoning. Sometimes you just gotta RTFA before commenting based on your biases.

What does RTFA mean? Read the f*cking article? Hmmm..

You don’t know JTaylor or how he operates, do you? Seriously though, Kyrie Irving’s situation may as well read: Number 1 pick sits quietly for free while not sharpening his skills. This dude “runs back” to a paycheck and playing the child’s game that we all love for a living. No one in their right mind could blame him…
