Report: Kobe, Rose, Durant to Play in Exhibition Games in the Philippines

Over the last two days, there have been rumblings about NBA superstars possibly heading over to the Philippines for some exhibition games, and according to Interaksyon, Kobe Bryant, Derrick Rose and Kevin Durant will indeed be flying East to hoop: “Five-time NBA champion Kobe Bryant, reigning Most Valuable Player Derrick Rose, and two-time scoring champion Kevin Durant are taking their talents to Manila. The three stars will be part of a selection that will play a pair of charity exhibition games against SMART-Gilas Pilipinas national team and an all-star squad from the Philippine Basketball Association. Proceeds of the games will go to the MVP Sports Foundation, whose goal is to uplift Philippine sports and to develop Filipino athletes … The Manila games would mark the first exhibition game featuring active NBA players since 1997, when Shaquille O’Neal played with a touring team against a crack PBA selection. The game was a one-sided affair for Shaq and the rest of the NBAers, and was highlighted by the former Lakers big man lifting up Filipino point guard Johnny Abarrientos for a dunk.”

    Kobe is pretty much an honorary Pinoy. He’s held basketball exhibitions there since he was literally a kid. Cool to see him bringing the youngsters along too. Should be real cool for the fans. @Stillballin, its not about competition, just charity, giving back

    Yea skip the NbA!!!!!!!! I hate all the selfish and greedy nba owners i hope all the big time stars go overseas and make bread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And D Rose is a specimen he is probably gonna throw it in above the backboard and dude neck movements extra fast and durant gonna scorre 50 in the first 10:oo min of the game!!!

    woohoooo! Basketball is really BIG here in the Philippines! that’s why NBA all-stars LOVE to come here because they’re treated like royalty. Just ask Gilbert Arenas. BTW, I’ve been a loyal SLAM reader since 98!!!

    Thrilla in Manila!!! Damn I won’t be coming back home untill September. Filipinos love basketball like white rice. Pacquiao will provide all the security since he’s good friend with HOBE!!! Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!!!

    Heard that PACQUIAO (an avid basketball fan) will also be playin, alongside a selection of players from the PBA., It was a bday gift from a Business tycoon from the P.I.,who loves Sports so much and is willing to spend some just to make the peeps happy .
