Report: Eddy Curry Down to 300 Pounds

Most people probably aren’t expecting oft-overweight center Eddy Curry to use the current lockout as an opportunity to finally get back into playing shape, but that’s exactly what’s happening, according to the Miami Herald: “Center Eddy Curry is increasing his chances of generating serious interest from the Heat. Respected Chicago-based trainer Tim Grover said last week that since Curry’s workout with Miami in late June, he has lost another 28 pounds and is now at 300. Curry weighed 350 when he auditioned for Miami in March. Curry intrigues Pat Riley, who might offer him a minimum deal postlockout if he loses another 12 pounds or so. His skills ‘are there, no question,’ Grover said.”

waste of space for the heat

As long as he doesn’t jiggle when he jumps up and down, he can still play in the NBA.

  • Jeff

This guy is one of biggest wastes of talents ever. Such a joke.

  • michael G

good to see him getting back into shape hope to see him back on the court good luck

  • Heals

One of my favorite “News and Rumors” headlines on SLAM ever. That six-word phrase manages to encompass so much…

    Pics or it didn’t happen!
    Ohw wait…

  • Brock

Heat should go with Eddy after they sign Samuel Dalembert. Eddy could Back-up center and Joel could maybe? play the forward but anyways I would like to see Eddy on the squad

  • Seven Duece

Hope he can continue getting in shape, if only for his future health.

  • greg

cosign max. i need video evidence of him practising so i know its not a photoshopped image

  • RyanT1992

The heat desperately need some bodies up front, if Eddy Curry trims down a bit they should definitely take him

Gonna have to disagree with Jeff… His talent wasn’t wasted, because he “made it”, and got paid.. I have a cousin whom 10 years ago could have been one of the top 5 players in the league,(he has played with many NBA stars in pick-up games, whos names I won’t name, and made them look silly) but his weed habit was more important than looking into colleges, and the fact that he is deaf (can’t play in the NBA if you can’t hear a whistle). He did however play in the Olympics (in Sydney) On USA’s deaf team, which I believe won gold (but not positive). Any ways, he had all the talent in the world, but nobody knows his name, and hes broke.

    * Correction- It was not the Olympics in Sydney, though he was invited, (1 out of 15 deaf Americans) he turned it down after finding out his wife had breast cancer.. He DID attend the Olympics in China though..

Eddy Curry would be useful on defence against some of the bigger bodies in the NBA, like Dwight and Perkins?

  • dannyb

    Lap band!

  • http://SLAMONLINE Jiggy

    Still Fat

  • Armando

RyanT: “Eddy Curry” and “useful on defence” in the same sentence… that’s a first…

  • RyanT1992

Heat need whatever help they can get…signing eddy curry to fill their center needs would be better than signing somebody like smush parker to fill their pg needs

  • Chukaz

the heat need a couple more bodies up front. eddy curry counts as two no? don’t they report the same thing every summer and then by September he’s overweight again? besides he should be around 265 at most. Ppl tend to think about this dude as a 7 footer but he’s only 6’10

  • C Da Tyrant

    and still fat as hell

  • toner

300 pounds: Is this in his left (pizza-eating) hand or his right (donut-eating) hand?

  • Yesse

    He is taking it serious?

  • Ryan

bro hes 6’11 not 6’10 thats why they consider him a 7 footer hes an inch away -.-

  • John

Fat jokes are to be expected, but how about giving Eddy some props? Better late than never.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

I hope he makes it. Losing 50 pounds is no joke. He’s always had the talent, and starting at center for the Heat would be a great way to revitalize his career. Best of luck, Eddie.

  • Flud

    @heals…..Onion-tastic headline

  • http://slamonline.com Neitel

The chicago bulls, sadly dismantled the 1998 bulls, to start a rebuilding process. Curry and Chandler, ‘remember?? the baby bulls?? well, they were supposed to change chicago and turn them into a big team after dumb-krause destroyed the bulls…so, what happened?? Curry didnt bring anything to the table, and Chandler was so-so, but not enough to turn chicago into into a contender…now chandler has matured, and won a chip, while curry sees that as inspirations. the guy has the talent and he could still have an impact, but he needs to manage his weight, and play his heart out. good luck to him.

  • Ngoie Kafita

Great, another 200 to go then…

This man embodies everything a professional athlete should.

This man embodies everything in his path.

  • LP

thats still huge…300 lbs. He shouldn’t have even been allowed to workout for the HEAT at 350 lbs….MIAMI had to be desperate to even give him a look.

You know how I know you’re fat? Cos a basketball website made a big deal out of you DROPPING to 300 lbs. LMAO Eddy Curry is a joke… end of story.

  • Rainman

IF he is down to 300? and he can still move? i dont see why not.

HE loses anotehr 12 and thats great.

I see what people are saying about him being a big waste of talent, but now if he DOES have his body in check? why not? minimum contract, not a lot to lose… The TALENT is there, by all y’alls own admission, so lets see what dude brings. i just wish it wasnt with the heat man. Holla at the Suns son!

  • angus

”DOWN” to 300? wow, not many can say they’ve gone ”down” to 300 pounds

  • Dizz

If he’s healthy and a decent weight, Big Eddy can give you 15-18 solid backup minutes and probably score at an efficient clip vs 2nd unit defenses. That’s nothing to shake a stick at. Too bad the Knicks were too ignorant and proud. They might have been able to take advantage of this, instead of paying him not to play. Nice work, D’Antoni.

Instead of clowning this guy, how about we wish him luck, instead? When he’s holding that trophy for the Heat next summer, you guys will all be saying “Go Curry! We knew you could do it!”.

  • Dizz

On a related note: I don’t understand why more athletes don’t get a lap belt/gastric bypass. If your livelihood depends on you being in shape, why wouldn’t you?
