Report: Ron Artest to Play for Cheshire Jets (UK)

In late July, Ron “Metta World Peace” Artest told SLAM he was leaning towards playing in England should the NBA lockout persist. And today, about three weeks later, reports have surfaced indicating the Lakers forward will indeed take his talents and character across the pond to play for the Cheshire Jets of the British Basketball League. The source: Artest’s Twitter account. The L.A. Times has the details:  ”Sometime in the next month, Lakers forward Ron Artest will be taking his talents to the Cheshire Jetsof the British Basketball League, according to a person who was familiar with the negotiations but wasn’t authorized to speak about it publicly. It’s also easy to argue Artest would take his weaknesses and off-court distractions with him too, but no one close to him would confirm that part. Artest pretty much appeared to confirm his plans to play with the Jets, however, by posting a picture of a fan holding a jersey featuring his proposed name change, ‘Metta World Peace.’ It still remains unclear when will mark his first day in a Cheshire Jet uniform, but the team website indicates that its season begins on Sept. 30 and runs through April 22. Per FIBA rules, Artest would have to return to rejoin the Lakers as soon as the NBA lockout ends. ‘Go Jets!!!!! Uk , here we come!!!’ Artest tweeted. ‘Jets are the best!!! Jets are the best!!! New chant!!!!!!!!!’”

While he’s in the UK, he can bring his ‘World Peace’ to London as well.

If artests peace is world what do we call the size of Greg odens peace?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

If he chooses, Ron can average 40 and 20 in this league. Easily.

YES!! About time a star player came to the UK. He will literally dominate in this league. 35ppg, 12rpg, 9apg.

can he stay there when this lockout eventually ends?

This is hilarious, only Ron Artest would do this. Also, it’s a good job he’s not in London, because I’m pretty sure he would join in the riots.

RON would definitely join in the riots
I’d love to see him go ape sh!t on a shop front

@Ryan Jones, not 40/20 but a triple double on any given night is not outwith his reach (20pts/10rebs/10steals).@GP23, is Ron-Ron really going to be able to get 9 assists against a zone defense when PG’s over here struggle with that?! He’ll be the best thing to happen to the BBL thats for sure – already looking into getting tickets.

Culture shock about to happen for Ron Ron. Chester is about as far removed from NY/LA as anything. Lol this should be funny.

  • Yesse

He will probably become a riot himself.

  • jimmer

He’ll get bored and move to a London squad within 6 weeks.

  • jimmer

And he’ll be bored with that after 3, so unless some bird keeps him here, the clubs will literally be pimpin themselves out to him for a few quid in tickets. Nice.

  • tomtom

He already thought he liked the place, the rioting sealed the deal. It’s metta’s scene for sure…

  • vtrobot

I love this. I hope World Peace comes back with a British accent for the ’12 – ’13 season. Good luck, Metta.
