Video: Edgar Sosa Suffers Horrific Leg Injury

by David Cassilo / @dcassilo

If viewing gut-wrenching injuries isn’t the thing for you, then you might want to stop reading this post now.

Playing for the Dominican Republic in the FIBA Americas Tournament, former Louisville guard Edgar Sosa fractured his tibia and fibula after colliding with a player from Panama on a drive to the hoop in the game’s final seconds. Gruesome video below:

John Calipari, the Dominican Republic’s head coach, tweeted shortly after the game:

“Please pray 4 @EdgarSosa10. He suffered a leg injury at the end of our game today. It’s one of the most devastating things I’ve been through”

Yesterday, Calipari tweeted that Sosa was still in the hospital, but in “great spirits.” Prior to the injury, Sosa was averaging 8.8 ppg in the tournament and was hoping to parlay a strong performance there into an eventual NBA roster spot.

I refuse to watch the video, but I saw a still picture and its really really bad. Its probably a good thing he had that sleeve on his leg. I hope he can fully recover and resume his career.

That’s just turrible, just imagina it without the socks.
Also saw another vid of it in wich you can hear him scream wich makes it even 10 times worser.
    Hope he get healthy soon.

    Get well soon Sosa!

  • MLK4Life

Nasty to look at. Hope the young brother can recover well.

  • J.C.

Oh my god… Hopefully they can reset the bones and he’ll recover from it. I’m not a doctor but to me this seems better to come back from than than a knee injury or something if it heals properly? Bones heal stronger if they’ve been broken.

    Get well soon Edgar.

Caveman, fracture your leg the same way and let me hear you say “it’s just a leg”. I twisted my ankle recently and if felt like I was about to die, so I can’t imagine the kind of pain dude was in.

bluhhhhhhhhh – I hope he recovers. That made me think of Shaun Livingston’s knee, and Bogut’s wrist. And one of my dood’s ankles. That sucks

  • fruizm

he will come back…ive seen some HORRIBLE injuries in soccer, probably worse than this one…and most of the players come back and come back in good shape..good luck Sosa!!

  • http://www.slamonline.com UNFROZEN CAVEMAN LAWYER

TAYLOR, I SAID THAT IN RESPONSE TO CAL ‘It’s one of the most devastating things I’ve been through”………… YOU WERE GOING TO DIE FROM A TWISTED ANKLE? OK, NANCYBOY

  • Heals

Caveman, you’re understating it cause it’s not your leg. Even if he isn’t NBA caliber, that leg is a major determinent in his attempt to make a living playing basketball. While trying to be big picture, your comment comes accross arrogant and petty…

Damn. Poor kid. This injury is eerily similar 2 a soccer injury I saw, only that one was worse than Sosa’s. Hope he recovers and is able 2 resume his career.

  • Ben Ireland

    caveman, are you blind?
    look again ffs !

Flashes of Shaun Livingston, I hope he can recover.

I’m a personal friend of Edgar’s and this is definitely difficult to watch. Spoke to a few people out there with him and he’s doing well! In good spirits and the prognosis doesnt seem to be career threatening at the moment. Get well soon boy!

    ^^ Good to hear.

That’s why I stopped playing ball after I knew that It wasn’t going to be a professional career for me.

Tarzan is just confused because he’s a tubby little sonuvagun and rarely ever uses his legs, so he doesn’t get what’s up.

  • http://dsjkflf.com Jukai

KHoliday: Do you know what exactly it was? Looks like a broken bone, if his career is okay then luckily there’s limited nerve damage but what the hell happened for that bone to pop like that?

  • http://philosopher.view@blogspot.com The Philosopher

    When you don’t brace yourself…
Everything must have been loose. Dead weight. Like he knew he was going to land correctly.
    In my judgement.

  • http://slamonline.com Sergio

Pray to God that Edgar Sosa gets well. There is nothing worse to an athlete than an injury. Even when people like caveman says that he isn’t going to die, if you can’t play your as good as dead.

  • http://philosopher.view@blogspot.com The Philosopher

I think Caveman’s point is that it could have been worse.
Being thankful that it was not worse.
    I could be wrong…
That injury reminds me of Jorge Garbajosa’s injury.

  • http://philosopher.view@blogspot.com The Philosopher

So, my brethren mass, jump off two legs when taking it to the rack. You’ll have a little more control of your destiny.

  • http://dsjkflf.com Jukai

Tarzan’s point was to be as big of a dbag as possible. He’d be crying and hugging his David Robinson plushie if this happened to anyone on his Spurs.

and they say it’s just a child’s game..

And people wonder why these atheletes get pay so much money.I feel so sorry for the guy, he puts his all into the game. I love basketball and have played pick up games for 4 decade. Now my knee is gone and has to be replaced, but I would do it all again….lol
