One of the best stories ever told by the greatest storyteller of all-time (sorry Slick Rick). Also, what the hell happened to “Part 2″?
Ghost is ONE of the greatest storytellers of all time. I can’t give him that greatest title.
Not when Biggie had done what Biggie has done. Come on now.
But I love this song. I played this song for some young bucks a while back to give them an example of why Wacka Flocka and Gucci Mane were examples of the absolute worst rap has to offer. They were shocked. I love Track 3 on this album too, and the story about the busstop and the one about Atlantis. I love the whole CD to be honest. I’m a Ghost fan, but I’ve never listened to a Wu album. Crazy.
BIG may have been the best storyteller but his career was too short to be considered the greatest storyteller. It’s the same way BKing is considered one of the best scorers of all-time but not the greatest scorer of all-time due to lack of longevity or how BJack is considered by many to be the best RB they have ever seen but not the greatest RB.
I don’t know if that made any sense but those are the best comparisons I could come up with.
ALLEN, YOU HAVE GOT TO LISTEN TO SOME MORE W
I have listened to all Ghost’s albums, so i’ve gotten a sprinkling.
I just like him best out of the group. My boy tells me I should listen to GZA, so one of these days i’m going to find a copy of Lyrical Swords
Liquid Swords Allenp!haha word is bond 36 Chambers, Wu-Tang Forever and Only Built for Cuban Linx by Raekwon are good places to start. As far as greatest story teller of all time, gotta give love to Nas, Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal…but Toney Starks gotta be top 5
Ghostface is a hell of a stroy teller but he is not better thatv Slick R
Oh, my bad. I told y’all I don’t listen to them. I was biased against all up-North rappers for a while and it don’t get much more Up North than WuTang.
“Bow Down” or “Hate It or Love It” next please.
Liqud Swords is a good album. GZA the most underrated rapper in the Clan.
I messed up my last comment, but it’s all good.
Allen, your boy is your boy for a reason so listen to him! It must have been my skateboarding past, but there was no way we could’ve gotten by without our Wu. If anything your kinda lucky in a way cause by the end of the weekend your gonna delve into some Liquid Swords (and so on) and just vibe out on the nice rawness…
Damn Allen, I’m shocked that you haven’t listened to more Wu.
But since you’re a Ghost fan, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx is the obvious place to start since he’s on nearly every track anyways.
Liquid Swords is another classic, and of course 36 Chambers.
And I’d put Biggie, Ice Cube, and Slick Rick ahead of Ghost as far as storytelling.
I’d put Ghost higher if I knew what the hell he was saying more than half the time…
ALLEN, W IS GOOD NY STUFF, VERY GOOD. YOU KNOW WE HAVE SIMILAR TASTES, AND IM NOT A FAN OF MOST EAST COAST RAP. YOU WILL ENJOY MORE WU, ID BE SURPRISED IF YOU DONT LIKE IT.
It’s funny. I only listened to Ghost because I heard Shakey Dog and I was like “Whoa, this is pretty awesome.”
So I was rocking Fishscale. Then I remembered hearing about Supreme Clientele and how hot it was. Got that, and rocked it until I messed the CD up listening to it so much.
Then I got Ironman, Bulletproof Wallets and the Pretty Toney album. (This was back when I was stealing music like a bandit off the web.) I liked them all.
I don’t like Raekwon that much. I’ve listened to Only Built for Cuban Linx a few times, and I just don’t like dude for some reason. I don’t like him on the OutKast tracks he’s a guest on. But Ghost is a genius. It’s like rap Morse Code. Lol.
I love Liquid Swords, but my absolute favourite GZA song has got to be Pass the Bone from his first album, which actually came out a few years before Wu took off with 36 Chambers.
Wu is the second best hip hop group of all time, hands down. With that said you can’t have a discussion about storytelling rappers without mentioning the best hip hop group of all time. You know, the one that brought you Da Art of Storytellin’.
Yeah, even though I love Cuban Linx I do think Rae is the most overrated of the Wu members.
Dude almost always seems to rap about the same sh*t using the same flow on every track.
Plus I’ll never forgive dude for convincing RZA to abandon his “smart guy raps” cause “real heads don’t listen to that sh*t” so instead of a deep, thought-provoking RZA solo album, we got Bobby Digital.
By the way, have any of y’all heard Little Brother’s “The Listening” from their debut album of the same name?
Am I the only one who thinks Phonte and Big Pooh were taking shots at Ghost and Rae on that last verse, at least playfully?
I goota agree with my guy jtaylor. Ghost is the best story teller ever. He is so detailed you can picture everything he is sayinng. And Jtaylor the 2nd one was on the big doe rehab albulm. Not as good as thefirst though
He is the best out the wu to me. And meth and rae are the only others that i listen to out of the wu
@Enig…imma go back and listen to it. I didnt catch that
“You small hoodie dudes”
They let the pitbull out, bighead bruno with the little shark teeth”
“spilt tarter sauce on my s.dot kick sitting back hitting baseball spliffs”
how about we get a 2nd day of ghost. and play yolandas house. and you will see what i mean about painting a picture through words
@BE. – Yeah, if you listen, they’re going on about how people don’t listen to lyrics anymore, and how MC’s just rap about whatever, sh*t that don’t make any sense, and then on the last verse they go back and forth sounding almost exactly like Rae and Ghost.
Not sure if it was intentional, but that’s what I came away thinking.
Man, Ghost’s “The Forest” was one of the ILLEST fictional stories of all time!!!
“R.A.G.U.”‘s my favorite track off Fishscale, but Supreme Clientele is by far my favorite Ghost album.
Which one is RAGU?
The one with the Bruce Lee intro.
You know, “HOOOOLD IT! Now you get out of here, I’m warning you!”
“I’m in the crib watchin’ Larry King Live, the new Guccis on…”
One of my fav. Ghost lines from Fischale was on “barbershop”
“barbershop n*ggas always wind up fu*kin around”
“one minute you hot, next minute you not”
“remind me of the New York Knicks with they jumpshots”
That’s the one with Raekwon. About he kid getting stabbed. Ghost’s verse is nice, Raekwon’s left a lot to be desired.
“I just knew for like 18 years.”
Yeah, that’s the one.
Also, have you ever heard “Cobra Clutch”, “The Drummer” and “Tony/Montana” with Cormega?
If not, you need to check those out cause Ghost goes IN on all three of those tracks maybe harder than on any of the ones on his album, especially on “Tony/Montana”.
“Trapped in this mission where snakes and rats is forbidden
Keep my gun hidden n*ggas is bi*ches signing petitions
And they providing convictions
See I survive through the system under the livest conditions
My riders ride on a mission for snitching
You get your back blown right out of commission
Youll be missing like them crazy Christians and swimming with all the fishes
Your misses will come and visit your body with hugs and kisses…”
That’s a nice verse. I’ll check those out
Listening to Cobra Clutch right now. Classic Ghost. If you don’t understand how his mind works it sounds like gibberish (which is what I used to think) but once you get used to him, it’s genius. One of the reasons I’m such a big Andre 3000 fan.
“Feather-head heathens teething on mike d*cks.”
Ooooh, Tony Montana is nasty. Thank you for that. Nasty. Now that’s how you do it.
As Tony Montana himself would say, “I tol’ you, mayne!”
Glad you liked them.
“Bleed just like us, believe my pipe bust”
“If he holding the right amount of cheese, I might rush the spot”
“Up early in the morning, kick the door in, wave the 4″
“F*ck the brawling cause Tony for the stalling”
“And all I see is dollar signs, here’s the bottom line”
“Either give up the product or get shot up with a brolic 9″
“Invest figures to address ni**as”
“Working out all I curl is my index finger”
“Got a safe that hold more notes than cortex singers”
“My workers move trays, serve em up like gourmet dinners”
“When it comes to cutting that coke, who got the best trimmers”
“Edward Scissorhands them grams, ni**as respect winners”
You know how you know Ghost ain’t on Biggie’s level?
He was quoting Biggie in that song.
And he had the nerve to call Biggie a “shark n*gga”.
I need to go back and listen to some more Wu. I think I was too young to really grasp what they were saying when I was younger. Wu-Tang foever was my joint tho. The MGM is a great example of Ghosts storytelling skills. Felt like I was at the fight. And I know I’m biased, but I got to throw Nas into that storytelling conversation.
^Real talk, you can be the biggest Wu fan and still not know what Rae and Ghost are sayin half the time. Especially on Supreme Clientele, Ghost was dusted out of his mind.
Ghost to me is the best story teller of all time, just cause of the complexity of his rhymes. His rhymes are mad detailed, especially compared to Slick Rick. Not to mention basically every other song by Ghost is a story.
Supreme Clientele is supremely underrated, yo.
Best storyteller of all time? Best freestyler of all time? Best rapper of all time? Sorry brothers, its Eminem – hands down. Ask anyone in the game, they don’t want anything to do with the “white boy”.
^You are sadly mistaken. Really, really mistaken. But, hey, Rolling Stone and GQ would probably agree with you, so there’s that.
I don’t know who the best is but I do know one of the worst is Vanilla Ice: “to the extreme I rock a mic like a candle, light up a stage and wax a chump like a vandal.” Y’all take that ish to the bank and they’ll laugh you outta the joint. I’m out like Vanilla at a convention of the Best Storytellers Eva.
