Jabari Brown Leaves Oregon After Two Games

by David Cassilo / @dcassilo

Jabari Brown was supposed to be the prized recruit that helped Dana Altman turn Oregon around. Instead, after two games and just 12 points, the player ranked No. 19 by Rivals.com for the Class of 2011 has left the team.

While Brown is gone for now, Altman hopes he returns soon.

From The Register-Guard:

“I will say right up front I don’t want him to leave,” Altman said. “I did try to talk him out of it. I hope he does reconsider, the door is still open.

“He’s a good young man who hasn’t gotten off to the start he wanted, (but) I think it’s a little too early to not try it out a little bit more.”

In two games, Brown averaged 6 points, 4 rebounds and compiled 11 turnovers. It’s unclear where Brown would go if he officially left the Ducks, but he originally chose Altman’s team over Arizona State, Washington, Georgia Tech and UConn.

Wow this kid has serious problems, he was with Findlay’s basketball program until he transferred out for a reason i don’t know of. Obviously its not the schools with this kid he just has some things wrong with him, seems like a big brat.

Watching parts of a couple of games, Brown seemed lost. Completely out of step with his teammates. He looks like one of those guys that was so talented at the high school level that he never really had to learn how to play with his teammates. Now at the next level learning the team concepts is probably just a bit overwhelming. It will certainly take some time and perhaps another program for him to gain an appreciation for and learn team concepts. He probably had 3 plays in high school. 1) Bring the ball up and get your shot. 2) Come up, get the pass and get your shot. 3) The play where he wasn’t involved (ie wasn’t shooting).

I’m guessing something is up, and I hope he figures it out. If it’s just the fact that he realized a basketball future is not a path of roses, well…. PEACE.

^^ agreed. hope things are okay for the young man….definitely seems his mind is somewhere else. Lot of talent and potential, NBA body, solid jumper and handle…be expecting Dominic Artis to decommit sometime soon…again hope all is well for the kid

^Dominic Artis probably won’t decommit (and probably wouldn’t have in the first place). Sure, he will have to deal with not having the prospect of playing with Brown once again like he did with the Oakland Soldiers, but for the most part, Artis already committed to UCLA, decommitted, and signed with Oregon. Likely, he wants to go to Oregon himself, while Jabari Brown already has a history of backing out for whatever reason. Brown probably had only a small part of the pie in Artis.
