Report: Stern Insists On at Least 70-Game Season

The NBA’s proposed 72-game season would start on December 15, which would mean a deal needs to be struck soon. From Marc Stein: “What I know for sure: David Stern didn’t arbitrarily arrive at 72-game offer. To have a season, I’m told, Stern insists on at least 70 games.”

    Let’s get this done already!

I totally see where he’s coming from on this, from a business point of view and a negotiations perspective.

There will be no season this year, You heard it here first.
Also Stern deserves to rot in hell.

Stern is a cheap stooge. Ok, not a cheap one. He’s an expensive stooge.

NAS, you are definitely not the first person to say there’ll be no season. First on this thread? Ok, congrats.

There will be a season, I know it!

Thanks spit hot. I would much rather have a season to watch, but one positive has been getting back to my college research days when reading lockout pieces. I think alot of others are in the same boat, other than being able to plug the numbers into specific formulas to predict their economic consequences I feel I could wchurn out a nice term paper (with multiple sources for all those punk TA’s) on this shht. Anyway I believe one positive of 70 game schedule is that the players won’t miss a check…

the owners suck…stern is a prick but he knows what he is doing unfortunately..the players aint getting a better deal unless they go to go..i personally want a season! the players really have no leverage..only way they do is if europe can guarantee kobe, bron, and wade salaries equal to what they get now they leave…than the players get leverage..i only saw that cause there are some others but you get my point…those three out of the mix..the nba=the dleagues..those 3 are out…tnt and espn/abc will go to stern…why are we paying you x dollars to air crap teams that equate to no ratings….that is the only way the players get anything!

i hope theres a season, but, dont you think that this season wouldnt really count?? i dont think teams would play as hard as they havent had any training camps and all that. i mean, does being the champ of the 2011-2012 lockout season would really count in your books??

Heals baahahaha I was just thinking writing about the same thing. Us NBA fanatics are all going to be considered union-experts…and I’m just corrupt enough to run one.

  • MikeC.

I insist on at least a 245-game season.

I am so sick of seeing Stern’s smug face on ESPN. Even though the owners are going to win this, Stern has alienated practically every player in the league, as well as half the NBA’s fan base.

There is something basically wrong with the NBA’s idea of what a Commissioner’s role should be. A Commissioner’s job should be to serve the game and league as a whole, not simply act as the owner’s mouthpiece.
