Video: Buzzer Beater Propels Indiana Over No. 1 Kentucky

by David Cassilo / @dcassilo

A young Kentucky team was in its first true road game of the season saw the raucous enviornment at Assembly Hall was as a little too much to handle. Wildcats’ stars Terrence Jones and Anthony Davis combined for 4 and 6 points, respectively, and despite shooting better overall from the field, Kentucky hit only two 3-pointers to Indiana’s nine.

The last of those nine for Indiana was Watford’s. After lgeadin the team in scoring a year ago, the junior Watford was averaging just 10.4 ppg entering Saturday’s game. But after a season-high 20 points, he appears back and so are the Hoosiers.

Indiana won 12, 10 and six games the last three seasons, but is now off to a 9-0 start, its best since 1989-90.

why was the scoreboard wrong at the end? pretty sure it said 75-70 Kentucky…

That was all on Teague. He got picked off near mid-court which forced Miller to switch onto his man, therefore allowing Watford to get a clear look at a 3. Also, missed FTs cost Calipari another win.

@ matutakeshi: He shot it on the wrong hoop… Which would explain the bad defense. They later found this out after the fans cheered for three hours on the court.

Koofies! great shot stepped into it!!!

  • T-Ray

Hell yes!!! Louisville wins and the Cats lose great day for me! That look on Calipari’s face made it all worth while.

College ball has bean great thus far.

  • horsey

Number one ranked team at home? Go for the win in regulation. I love it.

nice ending, ok game, bad D. College basketball at it’s finest in 2011.

@how the world is that all on Teague!!!!!???? thats ALL on Calipari, and he bet not come out his mouth talkin otherwise….they can only beat you with a three, HOW ABOUT YOU PLAY CLOSER TO THE LINE!!! Indiana has 3 men backcourt, how do you expect a 6’1″ Teague to pick up the foul?? If you wanna play softie pressure how about you just leave all your men up court and play 4 up top and 1 back and THEN pick up the foul if necessary……tired of seeing this nonsense and then cats tryna blame the kids….Calipari gotta be the most overrated basketball coach of all time smh

@Max, I don’t know man, some good finishes no doubt but I’ve been fairly dissapointed with most of what I’ve watched

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

Aside from the ending from the Xavier-Cincci game that is. :)

    Syracuse Orange is #1

  • rob stewart

Daniel Moore wears #11 for Indiana. How is that jersey not retired(Isiah Thomas)?

  • AqWord

    Word 2 dat ^^^^^^ Great Moment ^^^

  • KSupreme

To the guys criticizing the D..i think it was good…blue shirt flew right at him

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

@ORANGE…Cuse is def #1 for right now, I don’t think they are better than Ohio State though…….but the best squad in the nation is them Baylor Boys….my word, mark it. Their frontcourt is way too long, athletic, and skilled for any squad in the nation to compete with and from what I’ve seen this year squads are living and dying off of their frontcourt play this year….reason UNC been so blah

Cuse is deeper than any of those teams you mentioned.

  • Wet

So, do you guys think IU will see a top 20 ranking?

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

^^^ they deserve it, LOTTA hoopers on that squad and they are only getting better….@ORANGE, won’t argue with you there

  • http://www.nyill.wordpress.com Enigmatic

Once again, BRK, you are WAY too high on Baylor.
Love them, they’re a fun team to watch, Miller and Jones are beasts.
But they aren’t a true threat to win it all.
They’ve played a cupcake schedule this far, except for NW.
They turnover the ball way too much, their coach is a great recruiter, but average coach.
They lack depth in the backcourt.
I’m telling you, once Big 12 play starts Kansas and Mizzou are gonna cause them major problems.
And in the tourney they’re not getting past a Kentucky or Ohio State.
