Duke Spends Most Money on Basketball in D1

by David Cassilo / @dcassilo

A recent report by Business Insider says Duke spends $13.8 million on its basketball team, the most in Division I basketball. The Blue Devils spend about $500,000 more than the second highest school, Louisville.

While Duke spends the most money, the runner-ups bring in the highest total. Louisville’s revenue is at $40.9 million, about $12.9 million more than any other school. Part of that revenue is the direct result of the opening of the team’s new arena, the KFC Yum! Center, in 2010.

The top five in expenses are Duke, Louisville, Kentucky, Marquette and Arkansas.

Spending money, though, doesn’t guarantee success. Of the top 20 teams in expenses, 12 are unranked, and one, Tennessee, has a losing record.

Arkansas has had some good players, just not good teams.

Is this suppose to be breaking news??? LOL. They have stadiums over in China so I think we can pretty much figure it out. They’re a rich, Ivy-League school. I wonder how much they spend to have all their games broadcasted on television?
