Always debated with my peoples on who was the greatest rap group of all-time: Wu-Tang, Tribe Called Quest or NWA…

  • blakos

    A classic

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    O – I’d go with Wu-Tang or Outkast.

  • Kilo

NWA invented gangstar rap, but they did not last as long an do as much indviually as the Clan did.

LOL Kilo, I think Gang Starr invented “gangstar rap”
Real talk tho, check out Schooly D, who is often credited with inventing gangster rap.
As for the Wu and this joint…man…I mean…mean….classic.
    Just…man…f*ckin’ classic.
I remember watching MTV back in the days when the M in MTV still stood for “Music” and not “Moronic” and it was around the time Wu Tang Forever dropped back in like ’97.
They had this doc on the Wu and they was talking about selling singles of this song out of the trunks of their cars, back how cats used to do it back in the day before the days of emailing producers and label heads begging them to listen to your sh*t.
Me and my guys from back home were gonna do that too, I used to rap back in the day, that’s where the “Enigmatic” moniker came from, we had a group called “Ill Minded Souls”, before anyone had ever heard of the producer Illmind.
Anyways, it was like 11 of us, I was the youngest at like 15, everyone else was in their late teens or 20′s, we made a song here or there, but nothing ever happened.
But we were inspired as hell by the Wu.
And if anyone’s wondering if I was any good, I thought I sounded pretty dope a capella but I couldn’t rap over a beat to save my life. Lol

nbk – This is Brooklyn, NY. OutKast wasn’t and still isn’t on most of these dudes radars. I love OutKast and their music, but i’m one out of every thousand nuccas in BK that even considers them hip-hop music. But you definitely right. Enig, you slaying ‘em with the jewels you droppin, dunn!! Gangstarr is another underrated group even though it was one rapper and one producer. Hard to Earn, b-yotch!!!

See to me, a group means three or more.
I don’t think you can put Outkast in there, they gotta battle it out with like, Mobb Deep and others in the best duo category.
One duo that rarely gets props as much they should is Organized Konfusion.
Speaking of which, I read a rap article where dude said he felt Pharoahe Monch is the best rapper to ever come outta Queens.
Over the likes of Nas, LL and others.
O, you from BK, but what do you think?

    Greatest Hip-Hop Group of All-Time

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

Best Duo? Outkast, with Gang Starr a close second even though I’ve never heard Premo rap.
Black Star is amazing but unfortunately Mighty Mos & Talib haven’t made much music under that name recently, excluding “You Already Knew”.

By the way, I know this is unrelated but (LMAO) what do y’all think of the Common vs Drake(or “That hoe-a** n*gga” according to Common)beef?

  • http://nyill.wordpress.com/ O

Enig, Pharoahe was/is DOPE, but the best rapper to come out of Queens is Nas. Where’s PM’s classic album? How’d he change the game? Nas is the best MC to ever come out of Queens. LL Cool J could be up there too, but in a battle, Nas would slay him something horribly. Best rap duo, Outkast. I know heads would get tight and try to throw in Mobb Deep, CNN, Heltah Skeltah, Dogg Pound, etc. But look at the quality of work and the quantity as well. They have a long catalog and it’s mostly dope ish. @ BlackPahntom, Common BODIED Drake on his freestyle.

  • Heals

Good timing as The Basketball Jones pod just played a game of Wu-tang Member or NBA’er the other day

  • Heals

I’m with matic on thinking of groups in smaller terms. Anyway that’s why they’re the Clan right…

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

    Oukast >>>>>>> Mobb Deep

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Organized Konfusion’s first three albums >>>>> Anything Nas ever did, except Illmatic and maybe Stillmatic. And that’s the truth, Ruth.
I’d still pick Nas as the best Queens rapper though.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Best emcee duo is probably Outkast, unless we count A Tribe Called Quest because Ali Shaheed isn’t a rapper.
But if we’re talking about Producer or DJ + MC duos, then it’s Eric B. and Rakim.

  • golden state

best group in hip hop hands down!!!! only question is who is the best in the group? my favorite is ghostface..the rebel ins is underrated though.

  • http://nyill.wordpress.com O

Ghost is probably the best in Wu. Deck is dope but his solo albums were horrible…
