No. 5 Duke Avenges Loss to No. 15 Florida State

by David Cassilo / @dcassilo

Propelled by 13 three-pointers, No. 5 Duke survived a tough road test by dropping No. 15 Florida State, 74-66. The win moves Duke past Florida State into a tie with No. 7 North Carolina for first place in the ACC.

The win was a shooting exhibition from deep from both junior guard Andre Dawkins and freshman guard Austin Rivers. Dawkins came off the bench to nail six of his nine shots from beyond the arc for 22 points. Meanwhile, Rivers hit four of his eight and finished with 20 points. As a team, the Seminoles, who beat Duke 76-73 on Jan. 21, only made four three-pointers all game.

After the game Duke’s head coach Mike Krzyzewski discussed winning both at home and on the road.

From the Charlotte Observer:

“We’ve won 24 games, so we’ve been pretty good everywhere,” Krzyzewski said. ”I’m proud of our guys. People want to nitpick about this team, but this team has done an unbelievable job and we’re getting better. We’re not great, but we’re getting better.”

The Blue Devils last big win must be at home if it is to win the ACC title. Duke hosts North Carolina in its regular season finale on March 3.
