After surgery on Kendall Marshall’s broken right wrist Monday, the sophomore point guard’s status is still unknown for the Sweet 16. In the meantime, the Tar Heels are forced to prepare for playing without him.
Marshall’s importance to North Carolina cannot be overstated. He’s averaged 7.8 ppg and 9.7 apg this season and tallied double-doubles in five of his last six games. Furthermore, he’s the only point guard in Roy Williams’ rotation.
While there’s no indication definitively either way on whether Marshall will play, his coach is a bit pessimistic.

On his weekly radio show Monday night, coach Roy Williams said: “My guess — and it’s purely a guess — is Kendall will not play, but we really don’t know anything.”
For what it’s worth, Marshall stayed in Sunday’s game for nine minutes after his injury, hit one free throw and dished out two assists.
