UNC’s Harrison Barnes, Kendall Marshall and John Henson Declaring for NBA Draft

Many have predicted that the 2012 NBA Draft will be absolutely inundated with talent, and here’s one more piece of evidence that those forecasts will be correct: UNC starters Harrison Barnes, Kendall Marshall and John Henson are all officially on their way to the League. The three of them are projected to be first-round selections this June. Via ESPN: “North Carolina players Harrison Barnes, John Henson and Kendall Marshall all will leave school early to enter the NBA draft, the Tar Heels announced Thursday. Barnes and Marshall are sophomores, while Henson is a junior. ‘It’s a great day for three youngsters who are taking another step toward their ultimate goal of playing professional basketball,’ coach Roy Williams said in a statement. ‘On a very small stage, it’s a sad day for me because I won’t get to coach them again. All Tar Heel fans will miss them greatly, as well.’”

I hope Marshall falls to like say #12 in the draft. So Phoenix can nab him and get on that “replace Steve as fast as can be” workout plan. and also keep up the “Phoenix is the place for top PG’s to hit their prime” (KJ, Kidd, Nash, Marbury)that has been goin on since the 90s

Hate to see that. Sucks the talent level is draining from college bball and ultimately from the NBA in return. Oh well, life goes on.

i’m a big fan of kendall marshall. his ability to run a team with great poise is very unique, especially at that age. it’s not always about the assists, he just makes sure the rock goes where it needs to go.

Marshall will be the best pro. Henson and Barnes are overrated.

NEITHER of these three seem ready for the rigors of an NBA schedule. Barnes needs to go see the Wizard and pick up a HEART……KM needs to find a consistent jumper QUICKLY…..he won’t be running a break on the regular inn the NBA, half court game is SUSpect…..and Henson will be getting up off the floor a LOT! And at LEAST Hansbrough, Ellington, and Lawson actually ACCOMPLISHED something before bolting……same as May,McCants, and Felton……THESE three didn’t even get ACC tourney hardware……McAdoo will be a better pro than ANY of them.

For having four NBA-ready guys in the starting lineup, this team sure did dissapoint this year. Roy is shaping up to be an overrated coach.

Roy Williams is an overrated coach? Bye.

I don’t think there has ever been a college player that was ready for the rigors of an NBA schedule (I could be wrong). Each player has some hole in their game that takes them a few years to figure out.(Some never figure it out). We spend a lot of time talking about what a player cannot do and lose sight of what they can do. They said Dwade couldn’t shoot, Melo needed more another year, Curry needed more experience at the point, etc. They all turned out ok. Sure there’s some that REALLY NEEDED TO STAY IN SCHOOL. But that doesn’t apply to all.

I like Marshall’s game, but I question his ability to produce at the next level. I like his vision and feel for the game, but I think coupling below average athleticism with a very shaky jumper is a death sentence for a starting pg in the L. I see a little bit of Marcus Williams in his game.

  • Justin

I think, with all due respect to their abilities, that in say 8-10 years they all will wish they would have stuck around and accomplished something

  • HAMMER

I can’t blame them for leaving. But man, I wish they has stayed for at least one more year and give it another run, especially Marshall.

  • Ismael

Harrison Barnes is OVERRATED! His game reminds me too much of Marvin Williams and that is NOT a good thing!

  • MirChilly

Kendall will be the best pro!!! That young man can run a team. His court awareness and ability to make the right play is solely needed and a underrated skill for pg. Forget his so-called lack of athleticism (most over-used term in the nba) watch him run the point. John Wall can run and jump all day but can’t run the point same with westbrook. Funny thing is if Marshall was foreign let’s just say from spain, people would be screaming about his court awareness and how he anticipates plays. Very interesting indeed

Agree with Ismael, the guy was struggling in so many games, Harrison Barnes has below athletism for his position and doesn’t make it up with his skill set in my book. He’ll be a good complementary player, 3rd offensive option but has no superstar talent/potential.
Marshall reminds me of a poor Mark Jackson. Love his bball IQ..L

I would like to see the Marshall go to the Jazz.
