Ben Gordon Will Not Play For Great Britain in the Olympics

Ben Gordon, who was born in London, England, could have really helped Great Britain’s basketball team in the upcoming Olympics—if he had made an appearance at the team’s training camp. From the Manchester Evening News: “The London-born shooting guard – who has just been traded from Detroit Pistons to the Charlotte Bobcats – was due to finally commit to Great Britain in time for London 2012 after a protracted four-year effort to get him on board. But after failing to show at the team’s training camp which closed in Houston on Saturday night, coach Chris Finch has been forced to name a squad without him. GB Basketball performance director Chris Spice said: ‘We kept the door open as long as we could. We had been in correspondence with his people, and one day he was in, one day he was out. He felt he couldn’t commit. We are where we are and now we focus on the guys we have here.’”

Its a real shame that he decided not to show. Not because hes an amazing player, but because he would’ve helped raise the profile of bball in England. Just like Luol is doing, injuries n all. BG just isn’t dedicated

If they were appealing to Ben Gordon’s ego the team couldn’t have possibly have offered a more attractive package. The team was incredibly patient and he was guaranteed a lot of love with the hometown Olympic crowd.

that’s lame. He only has one chance at this to be not just a man but the man on the international stage and he skips it. Too bad.

I’m very disappointed but not surprised, I really enjoy watching Ben Gordon play when he’s at full strength but to not want to show at all on this kind of stage, how much desire is burning in his tank?

He’s been quitting on GB for years (I understand he’s sometimes had his reasons), I expected him to pull out as soon as I saw his name on the first roster. At least we have Luol, I can’t think of many players more dedicated to their national team than he has been.

From wikipediaL “Ben Gordon was born in London, England to Jamaican parents. He moved to the United States shortly after his birth, and grew up in Mount Vernon, New York.”

Yea, he’s pretty British… and Miss Cleo is pretty Jamaican
