Manu Ginobili Believes Argentina Has ‘Five Percent’ Chance of Beating USA

Confidence is key in basketball. If you believe you can beat your opponent, chances are you’ll go out and give it your best shot, with no fear in sight. Um, someone tell that to Manu Ginobili. When asked how he views Friday’s matchup with Team USA, the Spurs guard didn’t give his Argentina squad much of a chance. Was this the wrong thing to say, or should we applaud Ginobili for being brutally honest? Via Reuters: “‘The odds are against us. We have a 10 percent or even a five percent chance of winning but we are going to fight for this,’ San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili said after driving his team past Brazil and into the semi-finals. Argentina pressed a U.S. team packed with top talent from the National Basketball Association (NBA) deep into the third quarter in the group stages on Monday. ‘We are going to try and turn the ball over less. Make a few shots in the second half and don’t let them run. Then if they get inspired and LeBron (James) or Kobe Bryant or someone get hot and hit 20 threes like they did in the last game, then there’s nothing you can do.’”

Hey, that’s a good quote. Why 5%? Such a random number. But you are right Manu.
5% is all you are getting.

what are the chances kobe gloats about the howard trade, everyone starts talking trash, everyone gets pissed, nobody plays together, scola irritates everyone even more, things get chippy, usa players get ejected, manu goes all manu on us, and we lose? i can see that percentage being higher than 5

  • Riggs

co-sign Riggs. Good to see nobody’s going to trash Manu. He’s being real but won’t let his expectations influence his effort.

People might not liek to hear it, but Manu has been one of Kobe’s only peers amd “rivals” if u like to put it that way. since he came in 2003.

Manu is so very competitive. Nobody is more competitive than him. Watching manu vs kobe and wade over the years has been magnificient to watch. Easily one of my favorite players ever. So very effective and efficient, with tons of style and flair. Oh yea, he does nothing but win. I love manu, he is that dude.

Manu is smart. If he had said, “Team USA has no chance against Argentina!” There would be a few US players that you would rather not see pissed off.

Manu is going off! Arg is so fuccn grimy!

Manu shouldn’t be trashed for it because you know he’s going to go all out to try to make that 5% the outcome, as he always does.
