NBA Players React to Team USA’s Gold Medal Victory

A tweetcap.

With a tough 107-100 victory over Spain, Team USA completed an undefeated run, bringing home gold for the second consecutive Olympics. And as they did so, plenty of NBAers back home tweeted their thoughts on what went down during the game—and the win as a whole—as it took place and after the final buzzer sounded. Scroll through the gallery above to see what the world’s greatest hoopers had to say about the historic tilt.

Kyrie Making me feel old with that statement he made about Dr. Dre, I’m only a couple years older than him. Gotta know Cube made Today was a good day.

Anthony Davis could -potentially- have one of the best NBA starts ever:
    -National Player of the Year
    -NCAA Champion
    -NCAA Tournament MOP
    -Olympic Gold Medal
    -NBA ROY
    -NBA All-Defensive Team

No doubt Coach Kay one of the most overrated coaches of all time. Doesn’t really “coach”, especially at Dook. Just shoots a crap-ton of 3′s (same as team USA – almost laughable at what he has done to help deteriorate the beautiful game), guys flopping all over the court (at Dook) backdoor into a title vs Butler, then LEHIGH, plus produce NBA bust after bust.

  • The Mauve Avenger

Ice Cube did Today Was a Good Day Kyrie! Ice Cube!

  • LaKid

Not sure about the ROY and All Defensive team just yet, but no doubt Davis has a nice start to his career before he’s played a single NBA game. Someone has to tell him that it’s not always going to be this good though..

  • LaKid

@dupelupe.. come on man, get that noise out of here. Coach K puts in work and is one of the best we have. I think he’s like a Doc Rivers or Doug Collins, guys who can bring a team together and guys that can make others put their egos aside. Might not be a huge x’s and o’s guys, but why should he be? With all the fire power his teams have, making them a team is more important.

Coach K can manage players and egos. He’s exceptional at that. But he’s still overrated.

  • @Caboose I dont think davis can win rookie of the year or get on a defensive team as a rookie

  • Aamir K.

LOL quincy Poindexter can’t spell ketchup, anyway I agree w/ Mareese Speights why didn’t Iggy hug Doug Collins after the game? @LaKid completely agree, and w/ Rondo Doc Rives doesn’t have to do much X’s and O’s work b/c of Rondo’s IQ as for dupelupe, just another Duke hater, Coach K is one of the best of all time, and he produces busts? What? IS Grant Hill a bust? Is Kyrie Irving a bust? Is Carlos Boozer a bust? Is Luol Deng a bust? NO. End of Story.

  • Do Work

i hate rudy fernandez so much after today….and then he’s showing off the silver medal? what a lame.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Aamir K: There’s lots of Duke players who ARE busts though. Shelden Williams, Danny Ferry, JJ Redick, William Avery, Trajan Langdon, Bobby Hurley, even Christian Laettner to an extent. Not saying Duke produces busts, but you can’t just ignore the bad.

Was KD mom at the game, to cry to, saw D.Wright talk about his mom. Just wondering.

  • PnoyVibe

    DRose has twitter now, huh.

  • Decatur Don

D Rose personality is summed up in that Tweet

Coach K’s job at Duke is coach players to thrive in his system and preferably graduate. Judging him by his players pro success makes no sense. Look at the longevity of his so-called busts. Willing to bet their commitment to defense and teamwork keeps them in the league even if they’re role players.

  • -Mas-

@coachK….your guys got nervous there in the last seconds huh? Didn’t see your boys jumping up and down when the clock had 18 seconds left? If you don’t like flops have Lebron and Co. stop getting superstar calls in the NBA.

That’s what I like about Coach K’s ‘next play’ philosophy. It pertains to basketball and life. You can have a bad play, a bad game or bad day and the main thing is to learn from it and immediately get on to the “next play.”

Here is how Coach K explains it:

“In basketball and in life, I have always maintained the philosophy of ‘next play.’ Essentially, what it means is that what you have just done is not nearly as important as what you are doing right now. The ‘next play’ philosophy emphasizes the fact that the most important play of the game or life moment on which you should always focus is the next one. It is not about the turnover I committed last time down the court, it’s not even about the three-pointer I hit to tie the game, it is about what’s next.

To waste time lamenting a mistake or celebrating success is distracting and can leave you and your team unprepared for what you are about to face. It robs you of the ability to do your best at that moment and to give your full concentration. It’s why I love basketball. Plays happen with rapidity and there may be no stop-action. Basketball is a game that favors the quick thinker and the person who can go on to the next play the fastest.”

Calling Coach K overrated is like calling Phil Jackson overrated…. its like the old saying; “real recognize real”. Unintelligent people who can spell Duke right or Coach K right will make hate because its all they know how do to well. (Well not that well obviously) if you listen to any player in the Olympics or any great basketball mind talk about Coach K, they all claim that he is an expert communicator who gets his team to collectively buy in to the system and put individual accolades aside, much like Dean Smith. That is why Kobe lobbied so hard for him to coach the Lakers….. Some people and their YMCA 1:00 open gym knowledge of basketball amuse me.
