Top Recruit Collapses After Receiving Three-Year Prison Sentence (VIDEO)

An emotional video has made rounds today involving a top ranked player from Ohio. Tony Farmer, a 6-7 power forward of Garfield Heights who had offers from the likes of Illinois, DePaul, Penn State and Xavier, collapses to the floor after hearing the judge sentence him to three-years in prison–possibly ending his collegiate basketball career hopes. From Yahoo! Sports: “Instead of sifting through scholarship offers, selecting a school and launching his college basketball career as he originally planned, an Ohio high school standout will have to put his dreams on hold. Tony Farmer, an 18-year-old senior at Garfield Heights High School, received a three-year prison sentence on Tuesday as a result of pleading guilty to kidnapping, felonious assault and other crimes. The 6-foot-7 forward had been hoping to receive probation after teachers, coaches and family members testified on his behalf. When he learned he’d be going to prison as the judge read his sentence, he crumpled into the arms of a sheriff’s deputy and collapsed to the ground in anguish. In an odd twist, among those in the gallery sobbing in reaction to the judge’s decision was the victim herself, Farmer’s ex-girlfriend Andrea Lane. Even though the two remain separated since Farmer attacked Lane last April after she didn’t want to reconcile their relationship, Lane had previously asked Judge Pamela Barker not to put Farmer in prison.”

Timeout cbb_ I think your statement towards the troll is out of line just a tad. Just because he may feel differently about the sentence then you doesn’t mean you can judge how he value’s his own daughter’s life. Some people are quick to apologize instead of hold a grudge and he might be one of them. No need to make hypothetical events of close women to him being brutally assaulted.

  • http://thahiphopcorner.com Kevin

If this kid hadnt agreed to a plea deal there’s no telling how many years he got. With a 3 year sentence he can still have time to turn his life around and maybe keep basketball in his future. He’d be 21 when he got out he could do the JuCo route and see what happens. But still do something like that you gotta know consequences are coming

You guys are missing my point so I will all cap it. DUDE IS DEAD ASS WRONG AND DESERVES PUNISHMENT! THE VICTIM (only person and opinion that matters) HAS MADE PEACE AND HAS FORGAVE AND ASKED NOT TO PUT HIM IN PRISON. THEN WHAT GIVES U ME OR SOCIETY TO SAY ANY DIFFERENT. put the young man on probation and yes make him pay $$$. I am not saying no dumb Shlt like I’m cool with my kid getting fu*ked up so I can get $$. real rap,if it really was MY daughter I would prob be gettin locked right along with him for beating his ass.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

if the victim is an 18 year old girl with emotional ties, her opinion does not matter. Same reason they don’t let people who are connected to a case serve as a juror.

  • http://www.xvideos.com nbk troll

Forgiveness is all in the bible, and if shorty is good with him, then let’s move on and put the robbers, killers, and sandusky’s in jail.

Stockholm Syndrome would be a b*tch for you if your girl really did get kidnapped….

3 years is fine, he can get out and still go overseas..he’s fine…

It’s easy to pray for people who deserve it. The whole Christian ethos is based on praying for those who don’t. Crack the book.

  • http://www.xvideos.com nbk troll

How you gonna say her opinion don’t matter??? She the most important one by far. Yea she might be emotional but I’m sure somebody asked her are u sure ? And presented the whole other side to her and she was like Naw no jail time. Fine no jail time it is them two must stay away . Dude get probation and big fine. Now GO TO SCHOOL AND GET A EDUCATION instead of a di*k in your booty.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I feel sorry for him going to jail, I feel sorry for the young lady whose life he changed forever. I am most upset that the justice system is so weird about how it hands out sentences.
I have no idea whether three years is normal, but judging for the guy’s reaction he clearly was led to believe that his sentence wasn’t going to be that severe. Three years for assault doesn’t seem all that excessive, but I don’t know the other case history. That’s why I said “Do the crime, do the time” is off base. Lots of people do crime, and get to skip the whole “do the time” thing because of ridiculous reasons.
Anyway, he mad a bad choice and now he’s going to pay. Hopefully he won’t make future bad choices, but as James AKA noted, recidivism is ridiculously high in the American penal system.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

they did ask her. and totally ignored what she said.
    .
Allen, his reaction is to the judge saying 7 years, then he signed a 3 year plea.
    .
And i never once said i think the kid should get 3 years, i even said that seems excessive. but i know a kid who did something like that and got away scot free because there was some BS mistake by the police during the investigation. and guess what?

  • http://www.xvideos.com nbk troll

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Dude is lucky though. Judges usually hand out football numbers for most kidnapping cases, so in a way you can say he got off easy (even though 3 yrs in Prison is the farthest thing from easy)

  • cbb_fanatic

@T-RAY—-If you read some of nbk troll’s prior comments, he clearly stated that he has a daughter and if his daughter had gotten beaten and she forgave him, then he would forgive him too and expect some type of compensation when (more so now, IF) he becomes pro. When someone makes a comment like that, like they’re looking to profit from someone’s pain, especially his own seed, his own flesh and blood, there’s NO WAY you can tell me that he hasn’t cheapened/devalued her life. (THESE ARE HIS WORDS, SIR. NOT MINE!!!)

  • SeanMagicJaun

I have to actually READ the story on what happened. If youever stood in front of the door while arguing with your wife/girlfriend and she claims that you wouldn’t let her leave, the cops can hit you with false imprisonment and assault felony charges. It’s easy to say “look at his charges” and damn him to prison with arrogance. We all know how this system works based on your uniform.

Sometimes in relationships things go bad, and we have to be MATURE when that period comes up in a relationship. This guy CROSSED THE LINE. The young lady is a human being and has family that love her. Both of them need to LEARN “HOW TO HAVE A RELATIONSHIP”. Take care of yourself and learn from your mistakes. May be in a year or two, you will be released and start playing ball. While you are in prison, take some classes toward a degree and stay away from the foolish behavior. When u are released , your next relationship will be healty for both. Pray, repent, repair, and smile.

All these young dudes are insecure, if I was the judge I’d send him to the Marine Corp- ship him out to some 3rd world slum to learn how to work in a group, that would do him some good, but prison not so much, for the most part its mostly filled with scum with no morals or respect to the code.

  • Sagatti

Did this dude look in the mirror before trial? He doesnt look like Tom Brady to me??? SMH at dudes who forget that being a good athlete DOES NOT make them white… A white boy committing the same offense get probation/a year MAX.. maybe a little community service to make look really official.

Three years is not excessive for beating the crap out of anyone. I can’t believe how many of the usual arrogant know it alls are even suggesting that. When you violate a person’s physical being you are not only showing a complete and total disregard and contempt for that human being’s dignity, but most especially their physical well being. You are doing this knowing that these violations are illegal. An 18 year old knows this. Don’t even go there with that young and dumb crap. There is a reason many non-western cultures consider the age of 13 the threshold of manhood. The point is, this guy behaved like an animal and deserves to live with other animals for the entirety of his sentence. Women beaters never just beat one girl. They feel entitled to the right to beat their significant others. The latent homosexuals one here claiming that women are the downfall of men shouldn’t use examples of domestic violence to express their adversity to women. Why is it that violent crimes against women always illicit sympathy for the perps, while being the only crimes where the victims are on trial?

  • jayrose

Ccb_fanatic: Thanks for being the only person intelligent enough to notice how Kevin’s outrage for the potential violation of his daughter is dependent on his personal financial gain. Kevin, do the world a favor and get a vasectomy. You’re probably a teen dad reproducing what will be vulnerable young girls born out of wedlock. Thanks to you, your daughter will be more susceptible to jerks like this punk in the video.

I feel so bad,for both families. My prayers Trully goes out them. I hope they ALL SEEK COUSELING,to help themselves, and be able to help both children. Because ppl these are still children, that is the subject. Am I correct? Each person that is involved in this awful situation(directly or indirectly) have been terribly affected. And parents love their children, right, wrong,or indifferent. So guys have some empathy for BOTH Families. thank you for reading my comment.

Seen the vid of him attacking that girl, he needs his a** whooped! I hope someone in whatever jail/correctional facility attacks and terrorizes his big a** in the same way. I’m a firm believer that nobody in this world is above getting they a** whooped, for just cause, but any man hitting a women deserves EVERYTHING he gets. You don’t put your hands on a woman PERIOD!

  • cbb_fanatic

@jayrose-Thanks for telling it like it is. It’s sad that boys (not men) putting their hands on women is the norm today. Where I’m from we call these guys PUNKS and COWARDS. And I think you’re on to something about “latent homosexuals”. LOL. You have to wonder about people who still takes the boy’s side even after watching the tape. But I have many questions regarding their “relationship”? First, I would like to know if this young lady told anyone (her mom, a friend,…someone) that this boy put his hands on her before, and if she didn’t, why not? And two, where are the fathers (not the coaches) in this situation? Why doesn’t her father know that she accepted (until eventually she broke up with him) him treating her that way and why doesn’t his father know that his son feels he can put his hands on women? I think all parties involved need some seriously counseling, but let him get his in jail.

  • James aka…

You have no empathy for the victim, you’re just a worthless individual NBK Troll

  • James aka…

If any of you pro wifebeaters on here actually give a damn about the man, get involved in your local prison and help those there prepare for life after. Right now, society as a whole (and particularly those far removed from urban hellholes) do absolutely nothing to ensure that you come out of prison a better man (or ocassionally woman) than you went in. That’s a reality, and its not fair because we know it hits the poor and the non-white harder (I’m white for disclosure purposes, so I’m not saying this as an agrieved victim). So if you’re somehow outraged on his behalf, go to your local prison and figure out what you can share 1 hour a week to ensure that who comes out is not who went in. Also, if you think this is bad, teach your kids especially male kids not to hit if they get mad. Teach your kids especially your female kids to tell right away, because it never gets better, but often gets worse. This applies even for the 2-4 percent of your kids that are gay, since you can still be beaten or beat in a same sex relationship.

  • http://www.nba.com/knicks danpowers

i dont have any love for guys who beat women too, whoever does that is a worthless lil b**h and not even half a man. but i dont see much sense in putting that lil kid to jail. the most likely thing to happen is that he will only get worse in there and return to society as a grim man with more underground contacts who he added in the prison. smbdy above stated smth sensable, send him to the army, navy, wherever. let him learn respect and discipline there and maybe get bullied by his comrades there for what he did. i bet if he returns to society then he would be a better person. they should change that system fot young offenders andgive em the choice to go to the military.

  • rkj

another Robert Whaley smh look him up

  • cbb_fanatic

@danpowers-Please don’t refer to him a “a little kid”; he’s 18 years old and he knows right from wrong. But as much as I am digusted by this, I have to say that you make some valid points. I think some young offenders of NON-VIOLENT crimes should be sent into the military to learn discipline and respect. But for an offense as serious as what he has done, he’s not worthy of military benefits. Maybe, he could do half in the prison and half in the service with court and jail fees deducted from his pay or a lower pay rate.

  • jayrose

An 18 year is far from a lil kid. That’s a grown man, as immature as most 18 year olds are. If you are old enough to fight an die for your country you are old enough to serve a prison sentence. He’ll be more vulnerable than most of his cell block mates, but so was the girlfirend whom he beat savagely. She was as powerless to stop him as he will be to stop those guys if they choose to bestow the same treatment upon him. The girl predicatbly feels guilt and love for her abuser. That doesn’t mean he’s not worthy of prison. A child who is molested by a parent will likely feel the same. Does that mean the parent shouldn’t go to prison? And if an 18 year old shouldn’t go to jail for violent crimes, then why should a 19yr old? At what point do we draw the line if not legal adulthood? What message would be sent by him not being punished? If you have a talent you’re really good at, we’ll treat your violent behavior more leniently. No one would object to his sentence if he didn’t dribble a basketball well. Now he can dribble and shoot in the rec yard.

  • SeanMagicJuan

Why would you have empathy for the family of the idiot? I saw the tape, he was out of control in a felonious way, at 6’7″ 220 stalking and attacking a female. I’m mad at the family for not raising him right.

  • http://www.nba.com/knicks danpowers

by lil kid i jus wanted to express my disrespect towards him. but still, you say he wouldnt deserve military benefits (i dont know of many vets who benefited much by being in the military tho as soldiers r being traditionally exploited n dropped after their service) but i say if theyd punish young offenders like this, that guys would benefit and the most important thing would happen: theyd most likely become a valuable part of society. punishment and prisons simply have never and will never work for the great majority of offenders. you cant put the death penalty on any little bull***t so there are many many many guys who return to society way more f**d up and dangerous after prison than they were b4. so what does it help to satisfy the victim or victims familys desire for punishment (ok in this case there is none)? its way more important to turn “bad guys” into “good guys”. there are jus few exceptions who should be locked away for their whole life because their criminal energy comes due to pathological circumstanses. prisons should only used for this kind of persons and for these only.

  • cbb_fanatic

@danpowers-This has been a long convo, so I will leave it at this. I understand your point and agree with most of it. I just don’t believe that offenders of violent crimes, such as this one, should be given the option of military service. But it doesn’t really matter because non of these provisions apply in this case. The bottom line: I don’t know if he deserved 3 years or not (which most likely he won’t spend that entire time in jail) but he definitely deserves to do time!

  • http://wired.com charliewinning

The idea that offenders should benefit from anything but a lesson learned from doing time for violent crime is absurd. Protection of the public comes first; secondary is rehabilitation for offenders. If his victim were a child or an elderly person would we really debate what kind of punishment he deserves? Violent criminals do not deserve to be trained with special weapons and put on a battle field. I think jayrose nailed it with his quote about violence towards women. Sympathy for the perp and his family, who failed to provide him with the emotional security necessary to not act out anger in the form of violence, is really disgusting. Women are valued so little it’s frightening. JTaytor21 pretty much summed up why society will unjustly use it’s hatred of black males to forever casts us as savages. We don’t even treat our own women like living, breathing creatures. A damn near six eight man gives a female beatdown and we question his punishment?. That’s sick. I think most of the people who commented up top are sick. The easiest route to take is “We don’t know what she did; it’s sad for both of them”. That’s a coward’s comment. The contempt for women is often rooted in and justified by misogynistic, patriarchal religions who preach that victims ought to forgive their trespassers. Think for yourselves for once. Common human decency dictates that this guy be punished in the manner that he was. I’d love to hear all the empathy felt for the guy that beats the sh!t out of all of your daughters one day. See how fast all that forgiveness crap flies out the window.

  • http://www.nba.com/knicks danpowers

@charliewinning: i see what youre saying but there is one big problem. you say “Protection of the public comes first; secondary is rehabilitation for offenders.” but rehabilitation for offenders means protection of the public. i dont say that people who commit crimes shouldnt be punished, there should be at least a symbolic punishment to give the victims and their families at least a little cure or issue to transform their conflicts which is important for societies to be able to work. i also dont say that offenders should get cuddled, a rehabilitation or drill / education to be able to respect authorities and other people which should last some years isnt a walk in the park. but this investment would pay for society. the prison system as it is just costs a lot of money and produces more hardened criminals out of offenders than it turns offenders into upstanding citizens. how does that protect society? you also made a good point about black males. to put it very simple and polemic: especially in the two americas and australia the system of the nationstate is founded on a way to reproduce and protect white superiority and oppression of other ethnic groups. aspects like the education to patriotism, christian religion, militarism and (almost still feudal) capitalism that are also ironically embraced by most “blacks”, “latinos”, “mestizos”, etc (how i hate putting humans in such categories). ironically because these are the tools that the eurocentric system uses to keep things the way they are.

  • http://wired.com charliewinning

Dan, I will never argue that our prison or justice system isn’t deeply flawed in some of the worst ways. Nor will I sit here and argue that that the Western world’s co-called valued institutions aren’t designed to ensure caucasian superiority. These things are evident to anyone who isn’t afraid to call a spade a spade. The problem I feel is that your general view is misguided when it comes to certain offenders. This guy isn’t a drug dealer or thief. His crimes include extreme violence. The whole idea of rehabilitation isn’t applicable to each and every case of crime. His offenses stem from his mental state, which obviously includes a sense of entitlement to do what he does. Nothing solidified this more than his reaction to his sentence. He still doesn’t view his offenses as worthy of significant punishment. He beat this girl and honestly feels that her forgiveness absolves him of any further responsibility. That says a lot. It’s a clear indication of what kind of personality he has. I challenge anyone to find any sort of credible/reputable proof that personality issues are treatable. Extremely violent offenders, much like sex offenders, have almost no real chance of rehabilitation. He should be overjoyed at a mere three year sentence. We always turn the attention to whether or not the criminal got the raw end of the stick when women are victims. We ALWAYS find other areas to focus on besides their right to justice. Show me a woman beater who says he has only or will only beat one girl and I will show you a liar.
