Tracy McGrady Turns Ball Over, Loses CBA Debut (VIDEO)

T-Mac’s China debut didn’t quite go as planned.

The crowd roared every time Tracy McGrady touched the ball. Making his Chinese Basketball Association debut over the weekend, the two-time NBA scoring champ recalled memories of his days with the Rockets, with Yao Ming as his running mate. T-Mac dropped a cool 34 (14-22, 3-6 from range) and added 8 boards and 9 assists. He led his team back from a 12-point deficit leading into the fourth quarter, and got the ball in isolation with a chance to win it, but committed a shocking turnover (only his second of the contest). To cap off the heartbreaker, Sundiata Gaines drained a three-pointer with no time left.

    McGrady’s clearly just there to collect a paycheck. He put as much effort in that play as I would playing against a 5 yr old.

    Heartbreaking to see a player who was one of the elite scorers of his era play past his prime to the point he is not even in league anymore

    Since when is a stat line of (34 pts, 8 rebs, 9 assists) representative of a player collecting a paycheck. How about giving the defender a little credit here.

    Tracy’s grin is just strange (see 0:55) after Sundiata’s game winner. Dude clearly doesn’t give a damn, which is – imho – somehow not cool on a basketball court. Especially when someone is playing for money. Guess I should walk a mile in his shoes to understand this.

    Watch the highlights of the game guys, he actually looked pretty good. Yeah, that last play was lazy, but he had a decent game.

    The defender was being adequate, nothing more. I think I could have managed that steal. Probably fair to assume T-Mac is exhausted by that stage in the game due to putting in more minutes in that game than in his last 50 in the NBA. That’s the only excuse for that I can imagine…

    how do you find a completely random reason to validate a turnover instead of giving the defender credit? Kobe has played more than tmac, no one blames his exhaustion as a reason for turning the ball over.
