Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker Put On Shows At Midnight Madness (VIDEOS)

by Bill DiFilippo / @bflip33

They have arrived.

The nation’s top two prospects, Kansas forward Andrew Wiggins and Duke forward Jabari Parker, announced their arrivals on campus in a big way at both schools’ annual Midnight Madness practice/scrimmage.

Parker threw down on center Marshall Plumlee and forward Josh Harrison, going up-and-under the rim and slamming it home with one hand on two of Duke’s big men.

As for Wiggins, he didn’t have one moment that sent shockwaves through the college hoops world. Instead, he showed off his whole game, proving that he can step back and knock down a three just as easily as he can throw down on someone.

(Note: Wiggins highlights don’t begin until around the 0:58 mark)

Both players won’t see the court for a few more weeks—Duke and Kansas kick off their seasons on November 9, with the Blue Devils hosting Davidson and the Jayhawks hosting Louisiana-Monroe—but if the above videos are any indication, basketball fans are going to be in for a treat.

Oh, and circle your calendars: Kansas and Duke play each other on November 12 in Chicago.

How many more Plumlees are there? Also noted “Andrew Wiggins-Guard”!!!

  • Enigmatic

Hmmm…November 12th at Chicago…might have to come up with an excuse to miss a day or two of school and drive 6 hours for that one.

    highest ceiling/best athlete: wiggins

    physical freak: randle

    most skilled: parker

  • redbeard

I think parker can turn into a pre-injury Grant Hill. He’s got the body type and skill set. Not to mention he’s going to be playing for Coach K. Jabari is probably the most talented forward to play for Duke since Hill.

As a Duke hater, I can’t believe I just said all that.

  • AndyK415

Ha I was thinking the same thing when I read “Plumlee.”

  • Melvin flynt

Wiggins has game! The hype is real!—all the excitement is for a reason

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

of those three who do you see the best? I don’t know but wiggins doesnt have that skillset that’ll make him a bonafide scorer. I don’t see the tracy mcgrady comparisons. He moves awkwardly while playing and his shot doesnt have that high release most great scorers have. I am amazed at his effortless 2nd jump he doesn’t even bend his knees.

Randle unfortunately will be entering the league with a great number of sfs and pfs so he wont be able to claim next great.

Parker is too slow and is not worthy of a franchise label or allstar. He won’t be able to put buckets at the next level. Im surprised he has to use technical skills to score in high school games rather than just blow by people like wiggins and randle. You always take the athlete before the skilled slow guy.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

nah bro watch him play on espn360. he doesn’t have that scorers pedigree in him. No way is he the next tracy mcgrady.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

do you remember the old Grant Hill. He was super dynamic and a triple dble threat? Parker will struggle to score at the next level. He needs to get quicker and more explosive. If you fused parker, wiggins then you’d get something less than lebron but greater than durant.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

where do you live and where do you stay in chicago when you visit?

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

3 i think they are based in indiana becuase the zellers have friendship with them.

  • Clos1881

Jabari is very athletic not sure who those “people” are I think he’s better than wiggins and the best skill set I’ve seen since durant and I’m a tarheel fan.

  • Clos1881

Have you watched Jabari ?! That comment sounds crazy you would be that gm that let pierce slide to 10.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

yes. I have do you think his skill set will translate when lebron, paul george, KD, melo are guarding him. He had the benefit of smaller players guarding him but his 1st step isn’t quick nor is his technical as advanced as kobe’s or andre millers to get those buckets. He’ll be a pro

  • Clos1881

His game is very much similar to Melos he’s gonna be bigger or quicker than most people that guard him he’s super athletic and technically skilled are you serious ?! He’s got footwork ball handling great shot all the things wiggins doesn’t have.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

parker isnt super athletic. but latter is true im a fan of randle. but his footwork and shot are good but his handles arent gonna as effective in the pros

  • Clos1881

Lol that’s funny because Randell isn’t in Parker’s class and he’s a tweener nba future doesn’t look that bright.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

cal will push toward the post hes webber 2.0.. parker is overhyped becasue he dominated 4 years in chicago. Duke is gonna hurt his pro development which happens to all players that go to duke. Kyrie was lucky he stayed injured

  • Clos1881

I agree with the duke thing but when has cal ever developed anybody and dominating Chicago is a big deal because they have the best high school basketball in the country arguably and it says a lot that d rose thinks he’s way better at this age than he was.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

i mean they are two different players. but i wouldn’t cite rose an authority because he’s not gonna say Jabari is wack. I agree that Chitown is known for great competition but my point is that the people faced were smaller and he was able to use he footwork and counters based on the his lenght and size. When he faces against the likes of guys at his size with similar IQs and great speed he won’t far as well.

how do you see Aaron Gordon in the future? and james young

  • Clos1881

I haven’t seen much of him so I can’t say I’ll I’ve really seen were dunks I’m gonna comment on this post on 11/13 lol

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

personally im not big on the 2014 draft for two reasons which I am changing my previous position. There are not bona fide franchise players right away. There are plenty allstar level players but no one that screams franchise ready. I mean every year the bobcats draft it’s considered a new franchise player. but really who do you see in this draft that has you thinking that guy i can build around and he’ll take me deep.

  • spit hot fiyah

i think parker is sneaky athletic and looks slower than what he is. i’m not sold on wiggins though. i the draft was today he would go 1st just based in potential. not sure that will be the case next june

  • Mike Gilbert

    sold out :(

  • Mike Gilbert

Neither Durant or Melo were very athletic in college. Parker is at the same stage they were.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

melo was more athletic in high school and college andhisyears at denver but hes gained mass and has slowed down his strides arent as long and he aint dunkin hevsame. durant has improved his athleticism i think its due to getting stronger. i mean he had no strenght in college and now with staff, money he’s able tot curtail that fast metabolic rate.

parker has the moves but i want to see some adaptation. he should gone else where Duke wont make him a better pro.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

james young apparently is a sleeper but when i see him play he doesn’t have that wow factor. ppl will be disappointed with this upcoming draft.

  • Enigmatic

    NOOOOOO!!!!! :(

  • Melvin flynt

Lets wait till the season starts to see how it all goes down! This kid is the Canadian dream! Everything comes easy to him!–I believe wiggins will live up to the hype!–don’t get caught up in espn 360, I been watching and following wiggins since he was playing for Vaughn high school in Toronto he’s a freak of nature man child! — both his parents were athletic his pops was nba player for a few years, his mom track field Star

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

    No one denies his athleticism

  • Clos1881

Jabari is a franchise player that I hope the bobcats/hornets get.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

What? How is MKG and Jeff Taylor gonna fit with Parker

  • Clos1881

MkG is a bust that was a terrible pick you don’t take a energy guy with the 2nd pick in the draft. It doesn’t matter how Parker fits with role players and Jeff Taylor is a 2nd rounder that’s better than the first rounder the pick should have been Harrison.

  • STJohnsHoops17

I think Magic Johnson and Larry Bird were slow and skilled. That is one of the most idiotic comments I have ever seen. It’s a reason like that the Raiders took Jamarcus Russell number one, and Tom Brady was a 6th round pick. Jabari Parker is a great basketball player, and it seems like you have never seen him play…

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

magic wasn’t slow and skilled when he came in. and his vision and handling were far superior than parker. Bird was an incredible shooter and possessed intangibles parker doesnt.

i have seen parker play he’s skill and sound fundamentally but does he posses the same attributes as listed above?

he’s gonna be going against lebron james, kevin durant, carmelo, rudy gay, josh smith, i mean i could keep naming random sfs and parker can’t contain them. or score on them like in high school.

    On another note

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

I mean your only saying harrison because of his explosion. I really feel its a mix of both where the rookie lands and how the team impact his devleopment. Look at kawhi leonard.

Name a starting small forward that’s not better than parker in the nba minus the bobcats or kings

  • Clos1881

We’re gone revisit this topic once the season starts. Jabari will easily be top 10 at his position once he gets a year or two in the league.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

Easily top 10. name current top 10 sf in the league.

  • Clos1881

Lebron durant carmelo pierce after those guys Jabari has the ability to be better than any of those other guys.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

Lol no come on think more names. Parker won’t surpass rudy gay

  • STJohnsHoops17

Exactly, hindsight is 20-20. As of right now we dont know what we are going to get with Jabari. He can shoot. He’s 6’9 260 (listed at 220, I’ve stood next to him and there is no way I weigh more than him), and he’s tremendously skilled. I dont agree with the Melo comparisons but I could see him more as a bigger version of Chris Mullin, or a smaller, more athletic Dirk. He’s a match up problem against most PF in the league. ( I see him as a stretch 4 in the NBA especially if paired with a Rudy Gay, MKG, etc) But it was when you said, “Im surprised he has to use technical skills to score in high school games rather than just blow by people like wiggins and randle.” it surprised me because if you have them, why wouldn’t you use them. I have been in the gym watching him play 3 times and each time he had more than 3 dunks. So the fact that his Hoop Mixtape is not as exciting as Wiggins, Randle, and Gordon is a turn off? I agree with you on numerous posts about Wiggins, Young, and Randle but I see Jabari as an immediate impact player in the NBA. How do you feel about Jahlil Okafor? Another Powerful, Big, fundamentally sound, SLOW guy.

  • Clos1881

I hope you been watching Jabari
