Aquille Carr Released by the Delaware 87ers

Aquille Carr’s tumultuous post-high school career has taken another detour. The Delaware 87ers, the D-League affiliate of the Philadelphia 76ers, announced this afternoon that it was releasing the 5-6 Baltimore native. Here is the team’s short announcement:

The Delaware 87ers have released Aquille Carr.

Carr (5-6, 148) was selected by the Delaware 87ers with the ninth pick of the third round in the 2013 NBA Development League Draft.

Carr was one of three NBA Draft-eligible players playing this season in the NBA Development League and one of two players to play this season in the NBADL without having played in college. He appeared in 10 games with the 87ers and averaged 10.7 points, 1.9 assists, and 1.2 steals in 13.8 minutes.

The 87ers will play their next home game at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark, DE tonight, Friday, January 3 at 7 p.m. against the Erie Bayhawks. Home and away games can be viewed via YouTube on the NBADL channel. All home games can be heard on 91.3 WVUD.

I know it’s in the d-league but those stats are pretty good considering the minutes he’s got, hope he can get another dleague team

This seems quite stupid. Give the kid a chance.

    Per 40 mins he’s averaging 30 points 6 dimes and 3 steals ;)

  • Nick Holden

Wow double digit scoring in so few minutes.. He really must have been jacking though, made under 40% of his FG’s.

  • Yknot

I thought he’d stick around after the starter Kendall Marshall got called up.

  • TTN

Should have carried his ass to school period. The NBA is a longer shot

for somebody of physical make up. Guys like Earl Boykins and Nate Robinson are world class ball players and athletes that’s how they made it. He should have went to school to learn something and continued to work on his game and at the end of 4 years he would have a degree and or a career overseas.

  • TBRK

can’t see it being anything other than attitude. He had some dynamite games in limited minutes

  • BIG ED

gonna be like Bynum out of league in 5 years.

  • Nick Holden

Lets see if he can get in first…

  • Nick Holden

Feel no fear, Kendall Marshall is here

  • hattt

Know his story before you open your mouth.

  • Jay Cutler

Look at his FG% and his size though. That can’t work in the NBA.

Imagine a 5′ 6″ shoot first player who can’t even crack 40% in the D LEAGUE taking shots away from Kobe or Melo.

Only way he can get into the NBA is if he becomes Ricky Rubio. The NBA just has too many capable scorers who can take the physicality of NBA level athleticism.

  • TTN

Know the GAME before you open yours, TTN’s comments was spot on. He thought he was good enough to do what Brandon Jennings did and it’s not working out he should have went to school instead of believing his prep school hype.

  • Tony Taylor

But look at his minutes though it can be hard to catch a rhythm sometimes. Add that to the learning curb with age and adjustment to size and skill of competition of course he will shoot a low percentage. Hell Brandon Jennings is 6’1-6’3 and a veteran of about 5 years and still has not been able To shoot a decent fg% so it’s hard for me to bash Carr. He will or should be a contributor to an NBA team very soon once groomed and given more opportunities. Him being cut(probably for the first time in his life) has to have left him shook and hopefully lit a bigger fire under his but and motivate him to better his attitude, defense, and shot form/selection.

  • Vince Gully

Aquille is never going to be Rubio because he’s just a different type of player. The player Aquile should emulate is actually Rubio’s teammate, JJ Barea, another shoot-first short player. If JJ Barea, Earl Boykins and Nate Robinson carved out pretty lengthy, productive NBA careers as a short shoot first players, I don’t see why Aquille Carr can’t.

  • The Real

dude is right Carr committed to Seton Hall verbally, caught some charges and decided to sign overseas like Jennings to try to get around going to college. Since you know his story here is the link saying he was going to try to do what Jennings did. U dudes up here stop responding to others posts like emotional females when a person says something that u feel is unfavorable about a team or player u like.

  • LakeShow

    Well at 15ppg, 16apg, 6 boards, on 50% and 38% fg’s/3ptfg

    I’ll take him!!!

  • Young Nino

Give the kid a chance, he has so much raw talent!!!!

  • Ben

apparently he didn’t go to college because he needed to make money for his family

  • Nathan Shane Long

Yeah because the Idiot had a baby by accident
