Kevin Love Downplays Interest in Playing for the Lakers

Most fans and media seem to think Kevin Love wants to bolt Minnesota and play in Los Angeles. It’s only logical, right? Not so fast, cautions Love. Per GQ:

Now that he looks like a leading man—and with free agency looming as an option at the end of next season, and the Wolves not exactly killing it on the court—everyone assumes that his next big move is to Los Angeles. He’s dating actress Cody Horn, a California girl, and his Beach Boy uncle, Mike, co-wrote “California Girls.” So fess up, Kev: You’re gone, right? “People think it’s so far-fetched that I would stay in Minnesota,” he says. “And I’m not shitting on the Lakers, but we have the better team, the better foundation. I’m having fun.” Note the present tense.

I’m genuinely curious why he’d want to play for LA? He gets some BIG passes playing in Minny; all those flaws in his game would just be put on the spotlight playing for the Lakers.

And if he wants to be a #1 option with gaudy stats, he already has that. If he wants to play for a winner, he wouldn’t go to the Lakers. If he wants Los Angeles, well, I can’t argue with that.

That’s OK kyrie will go to the lakers

    you are kidding right?

What? I get it, Los Angeles vs Minnesota in terms of cities is a no-brainer. Not to mention it’s where he’s from. That’s my point, the city itself would be the only motivation to go there.

the Lakers have missed the playoffs 5 times ………… ever.
    .
they will be good shortly. you are too smart to just buy into the moment, they are set up to be totally rebuilt in 2015-16, the year Kevin Love gets his new contract.

You forget that the man who built all those playoff teams no longer runs the organization.

Jerry Buss bought the Lakers in 1979. I didn’t forget anything.

  • LakeShow

What? Who? Jerry Buss? Jerry West? Mitch Kup?

You realize that Kareem was acquired by the Lakers 4 years before Buss bought the team right? It also so happened that the Lakers had the #1 pick and Magic was the obvious choice the year that Buss bought the team.

Jerry really had nothing to do with showtime. He was a great owner, but wow is it ignorant to think that he was the key to it all.

Your name fits you too well here… You’re way behind here.

    Stay Love. That’s right.

LA will retool pretty quickly post Kobe. He’s not winning anything in Minny anytime soon; he has floundered 5 years of his career not making the playoffs.

  • JJ Jones

Yes because im sure kevin love would throw his team under bus right now while hes being perceived as a loser.

  • grgeblck

What can Lakers promise? Kobe Bryant?

yea, rebuilt. with whom? old injured kobe on the way out. pau old and on the way out. the lakers have no talented young player that they want to keep. they would literally be starting from nothing.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

So? I have seen then do it before. And they are The Lakers, attracting talent isn’t really tough for them.

  • Tarzan Cooper

thats all well and good, but specifically in the next couple years who could they get?
