MSU’s Renardo Sidney Suspended Indefinitely

UPDATE: Renardo Sidney and teammate Elgin Bailey were suspended indefinitely after throwing hands on ESPN Friday night. “The actions that took place in Hawaii were embarrassing to all of us who love Mississippi State,” athletic director Scott Stricklin said in a statement on Twitter. “This behavior will not be tolerated.”

by David Cassilo / @dcassilo

The Renardo Sidney era has gone as poorly as possible so far for Mississippi State. A McDonald’s All-American, Sidney sat out all of last year waiting for NCAA clearance and has played just two games this year. He then was suspended earlier this week for “conduct detrimental to the team.” All of that, though, felt like nothing compared to what took place on Thursday night.

Prior to tipoff for the consolation game of the Diamond Head Classic between Hawaii and Utah, Sidney and his teammate Elgin Bailey got into a heated disagreement. Shortly after, punches were thrown and an all-out brawl erupted in the stands. The two eventually were separated, but make no mistake, the damage was done.

Here’s a video of the incident:

Needless to say, it would be no shock to anyone if Sidney is dimissed from Mississippi State after this latest incident. It will be the latest case of a player with immense talent getting countless chances and blowing them all. It may already be too late for Sidney, but here’s to hoping that this serves as a wake-up call for him to get his act together and realize what special opportunities he is is wasting.

Does anybody who does these kind of things recognize that no one thinks that is cool? Stupid “hood” attitudes are lame

  • B-E-Z

I don’t think this has ANYTHING to do with being HOOD….this is just STUPID. Is he even that good? Miss State lost to Wash State by 26 & I don’t think Sidney would have even mattered if he played. Miss State just cut ties with this guy & send him on his way. FYI: I’m usually the one saying give the player another chance but this guy is a moron

  • LD

All he has to say is that he didn’t know fighting in the stands was against the rules. It worked somewhat for the Ohio State football players.

    Shout out to Victor Vaughn.

First off all Sidney is both stupid and done.
Secondly, if I was these cats I don’t know what I’d be more embarrassed of. The fact that I got caught doing something stupid, or the fact that the world now knows I can’t fight for sh*t. Seriously, WTF is up with cats just throwing wild haymakers hoping they land? If you gonna throw down, know how to throw down! Damn! Just one dude from back in the 80′s woulda laid both their asses out.

Man…I remember watching Sydney play in person his sophomore year (the year that most agree he was in his best physical shape) of high school at Artesia. The kid was a monster. Hitting NBA threes with ease, dominating in the paint and what not.

I knew this kid was gonna be a force in college, but after following the rest of his high school career and all of the criticisms, I realized that his problematic/confrontational antics (attitude, weight, etc.) would scare away a lot of colleges and really hurt his stock as an NBA player (Lance Stephenson).

He’s obviously blowing a lot of chances at redeeming himself, and this fight doesn’t help. I’m hoping Sydney can clean up his act, refocus, and make a Derrick Character like come back. Shout out to the SEC!!!

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

@D-Block I don’t see how a kid can peak during his sophmore year in HS, everyone whose watched him says that exact same thing. I don’t see how a 15-16 year old kid can just let himself blow up to 300lbs. I heard he was recruited to USC, but after the postseason lockout he transferred to Mississippi St. Seems like a maturity issue here. Tough going from big man on campus to practice squad, or from LA to Mississippi even, but he’s got to grow up. Road to the NBA is narrow and straight

  • jinjin

    Sit down man tits.

  • kingpen

kid is from the SIP so no big deal coming back home…his top two schools were usc and msu…his pops got them into some trouble taking money from somebody…don’t know all the details, slam can tell yall better than I can…so usc didn’t want another situation like with mayo so coach Stansberry
gave him a chance since they didn’t have anybody coming in. He just needs to grow up…but it might be to late…next stop Jackson State.

Let’s not act like headcases never make it. If he’s talented enough, they’ll scoop him up. The next move is probably Euroleague or D-League.

  • The Big Cheese

@The Black Rick Kamla: Tiny Gallon is playing a big role with the Maine Red Claws of the NBDL.

To those who celebrate this holiday, I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday. To those who do not celebrate this holiday, I also wish for their safety and happiness.
Life is such a short and fragile gift that must be lived to the fullest, and not be taken for granted, for we are of the fortunate.
Try to love our brethren. Try to love our enemies as well. For believers, pray for one another. For non believers, keep pleasant thoughts. Maintain a positive outlook and a clear perspective.
I aim not to sound sappy, but to tell the truth, I have never met any of my SLAM brethren, but as Lang Whitaker so eloquently states, we are really like a family. And me personally, I love all of my SLAM brethren. You all have given me different views about a wide array of topics. Looking at things from different angles.
    Peace and love.

First off, happy holidays! The part I find hilarious about the clip is how the spectators just watch the fight with a bemused smile. Not so much of a hint of panic, or any attempt to break up the fight! But Renardo Sidney is not done. I’m sure some schools will overlook his baggage because he’s a 6’10 guy with skills. Like they say, skilled big men just dont grow on trees.

  • El Tony

Sidney just keeps hurting his chances to ever make it into the NBA. Renardo seems to be going down the same path as Leon Smith

Another ten dollar tough guy. I’m sure he’ll regret that, pride got in the way of skill, or maybe he’s just dumb. :P

IF he get’s in shape and concentrates on his game, somebody will sign him to a contract next season or he’ll at least be in the D-League.

  • tavoris

The Philosopher-what u know about Victor Page? I remember dude was suspended from playing ball in HS, and came down to our X-Mas tourney in ’92 under an assumed name…dropped 40 on us, and bounced.

  • http://sdfjklfl.com Jukai

Victor Page is a great example of someone with talent who had too much baggage to play professionally. Good example, Tavoris.
