Perkins on Refs: They Don’t Like Us

by Marcel Mutoni

The local media started it, and now some of the Celtics players themselves are joining in the accusation that the men with the whistles are somehow against the team in green and white.

When asked for his opinion of what’s going on in the Bulls/Celtics, currently tied at 2 games apiece, Kendrick Perkins directed the blame for the C’s struggles at who else…the refs.

The Boston Herald reports:

“I don’t think the refs like the Boston Celtics,” he said after yesterday’s practice.

When asked why, Perkins also was careful to indict his team. “I don’t know,” he said, breaking into a smile. “We’ve got a lot of talkers on this team, if you know what I mean.” Perkins is one of them.

He has developed a look of disbelief – an aghast glare that mirrors the one patented by Tim Duncan following a whistle – that accompanies just about every call.

Perkins fouled out in the previous game (as did the Bulls’ Brad Miller.) Perk’s coach, naturally, still believes the refs aren’t giving his bigs a fair shake when it comes to moving screens.

With the series shifting back to Beantown for a pivotal Game 5, the need to work the refs on and off the court is more than understandable; one wishes, though, that the Celtics would take a page out of Chicago’s book, and simply let their play speak for them.

IF nothing else, i admire Perk’s shoulder stretch marks. You cant deny their quality.

    Go REFS, Go BULLS

  • Enigmatic

Wow….just…wow. Way to act like a champion there, Jerkins.

On my list of “favorite current NBA players,” Kendrick Perkins comes in at around 363rd.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ Moose

Russ, Perk is a nice guy off the court. I ran into him in the city and he just let me, a 13 year old, just walk into what he was doing to shake his hand and tell him that he was playing great at the time. He’s a nice guy off the court.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

    Good for you. 363rd.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Upon further consideration, I’m willing to move him all the way up to 362nd. Sorry, Dahntay Jones.

  • Squirrel7

I assume that there are approximately 365 registered players in the league then, Russ?

  • neaorin

    oh for crying out loud…

  • Tuomas

    Exactly, neaorin. Exactly.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

    Perkins smiled?

  • vtrobot

The NBA wants Mamba v. Bron, but I don’t buy the conspiracy theories. I think the refereeing is just genuinely and honestly bad. Speaking of genuinely bad, how about that new Reggie Blackberry add. It’s odd that one former great has one of the worst ads on TV, while another great from the same era has the BEST ad on TV. EWING! “What’s up, Ryan?” Oh man, I hate that Snickers campaign, but P. Ewing KILLS IT! Sorry to change the topic, but I don’t think SLAM was going to start a thread about this.

  • Ken

362 for me. Eat it Kobe!

  • phil

Wah wah wah I hope this joke of a team loses tonight.

  • cdef28

Note to Perkins: Learn how to play without fouling.

  • http://www.broy7.com nate the great

anything they could do to get the concentration off how bad they are playing. excuses.
but i agree, the only way the nba could make an ish load of money is if the cavs vs lakers make the finales.
we heard how much money kidd rock would throw in for a first row tickets, imagine everyone else in this ishty economy.

  • Diesel

So its the refs fault that him and Davis chose to eat cheeseburgers instead of work on their verticals? You have 2 big guys that can barely dunk! Perkins is a fool. I really hope the Bulls win because the entire Celtics team is a bunch of clowns. Moose – you’re too young to be posting here.

  • Jess

celts need to shut up and play ball…lets go bulls!!!

  • vtrobot

c’mon. the celts aren’t all clowns. not clowns: rondo, ray, leon, tony, scal. likable clowns: eddie, kg. and then there’s the rest. c’s will take this. their experience will win it for them in the end. watching the blazers try to close games lately proves my point. plus gordon’s injury. i hope it’s sixers-C’s and Cavs-Hawks next round.

  • Diesel

You’re right vtrobot, Rondo and Powe seem like good guys. The rest of those guys are chumps though. KG is not likeable. Maybe pre-celtics KG, but all his jawing and scowls are just annoying now.

  • riggs

dont mind diesel vtrobot, he’s an idiot.

  • Diesel

riggs – sounds like someone’s angry because his team sucks and needs the refs to help them win games. Please – let me hear your non-idiotic come back

  • John D

Hey Diesel, KG has been the SAME GUY with the SAME ANTICS his whole career. It cracks me up that there are still morons who don’t realize this. The same things he does in Boston, he did in Minnesota. Either you liked him then and still like him, or you never liked him to begin with.

  • vtrobot

last night kobe was sort of biting the recent pushed out chin scowl that KGs been sporting on the bench recently. i don’t really care who appreciates some of the C’s, i just think it’s funny when someone says that every player on an entire team is junk. i’d consider myself a laker “hater” but i’m a big ariza fan. dude and his sprained ankle had it going last night. pretty dang versatile. maybe the knicks should have thought about hanging onto him.

  • Diesel

Ok – well then I never liked him.

  • vtrobot

i can see why people wouldn’t like KG, and Eddie, and Perk, and PP, but that’s why the C’s fans love them. being able to talk a lot of junk and back it up with skills (perks has enough skills to do some talking) is a great part of the NBA. complaining about the refs all the time, not so much.

  • Cizzo

The Cee’s know it’s over so they can complain all they want, it want save them, maybe not this round maybe this either way it’s inevidble!

  • Diesel

vtrobot – don’t you see how all that talking could look dumb though when you’re talking a lot while tied at 2 games a piece to the 7th seed? I would argue that none of them have backed up the talk in this series. Otheriwse I agree with what you’re saying. I’ve liked Noah this series while basically everyone else hates him.

  • karma

I wanna punch Perkins in the face. Pierce too. I hate the Celtics, this team talks too much. Dont talk about the refs when one of your own teammates pretended he got headbutted when there was no contact and STILL got the call. Get the f*k outta here.

  • Fat Lever

So the Celts are a team of talkers, huh? Would that be close talkers, high talkers, or a bit of a group of low talkers?

  • ClydeSays

Well, Perk completed a series of dumb, cheap fouls in Game 4. I go as far to say they contributed to the Bulls victory. So he should be pi$$ed.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

I still think it’s funny that David gets beat up by every scary white guy in the league.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Two down, two more to go in Robert Swift and the Birdman.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Oh, and David should be Davis.

  • thatsthetruthruth

i love the opinion from bawston fans that the increased attention and ‘hate’ is some form of flattery or proof that bawston is relevant. no guys, the celtics are just the annoying drunk guy at the bar making a lot of noise and acting all fall-down tough. ‘haters’ can’t wait to applaud when you’re out the door. welcome to boston: get out now while you still have a future.

  • erika badu

    Again…. Boston sports = WHINE.

  • cdef28

If people say the Pistons are too high on their horse when they talk trash (Sheed), then Boston is absolutely talking way too much for what they have accomplished. They won 1 championship and are struggling to get out of the first round, whereas Detroit has a championship, been to two NBA Finals, six straigh ECF, and Rasheed’s the one who mostly talked, not a bad player unlike Perkins.

  • vtrobot

C’s won the championship last year and they were one of the best teams in the league this year. They have the right to keep talking until the season is over. The two quietest people (Ray/Rondo) are speaking the loudest with their actions. Pierce will back it up. Eddie will back it up when given the chance. It doesn’t matter if it’s a 2/7 matchup. It wouldn’t be close if KG was playing. The series would probably be over. C’s in 6. @ Diesel – Noah has had a good impact on the game recently. More than I usually notice.

  • cdef28

You are an idiot vtrobot. Find another place to ruin. This is too good of a website for you to try and act like you know basketball.

  • http://www.droseroy.com airs

    laaaaaaaaaaamesauuuuuuuuuuce

  • Tommy Patron

If you want to be liked, stop being an unlikeable prick.

  • OneStep

It’s not just the refs Perk; it’s everyone. No one likes you because there’s nothing to like. And that’s on you and your cohorts.

  • http://www.twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

    That’s BULL-sh!t.

  • KoBynum716

Perk’s just mad that KG’s out so now he cant take advantage of the double on KG and sneak in for a layup. even one-on-one coverage is too much for his fatazz. he’s a clown, and if he wants to complain about refs, lets take a trip back to last year…..finals…..game 2…………..

  • vtrobot

@cdef28: ouch. wow. i didn’t mean to ruin everything. i’ll try to keep the conversation at junior high level. some of the most loved players are total pricks: MJ, Kobe, etc., etc. again, cdef28, i’m sorry. ray’s going for 30 tonight.
