Kenyon Martin Is Making Guarantees

by Marcel Mutoni

When the Playoffs started, many thought (and hoped) Cleveland and L.A. would breezily get through their respective conferences, setting up a titanic clash in the NBA Finals.

Things have been a little more complicated than that, and Kenyon Martin of the Denver Nuggets intends to rain on the entire parade.

Following the Nuggets’ huge Game 2 win in Los Angeles last night, K-Mart was feeling pretty good about his own team’s chances of making into the NBA Finals. From the Press-Enterprise:

Before the Conference Finals began, most were predicting a Lakers-Cavs NBA Finals. But with both Denver and Orlando having seized home-court advantage, Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin made clear that such a match-up is anything but inevitable.

“We’ve got a fight on our hands and the Cavs have a fight on their hands,” he said. “Everyone just thought us and and Orlando were going to go down so they can play. But that ain’t going to happen. I’m going to make sure that doesn’t happen. Go play NBA Live if you want to see that match-up.”

Kenyon Martin, ladies and germs!

There’s no doubt that Cleveland and L.A. are facing a monumental challenge in the conference finals, but for a guy whose team has only beaten its opponent a grand total of once in the last two decades of postseason play to be making guarantees … that’s a bit bold, no?

The NBA ……..Where Dumb ass statements happen

  • ab_40

uhm he guarantees his team and orlando will do everything about that lakers cavs finals. he never says we’re gonna beat the lakers. man you folks are dumb and love to take a little quote like this way out of proportion and well make some cash of of it.

“Everyone just thought us and and Orlando were going to go down so they can play. But that ain’t going to happen. I’m going to make sure that doesn’t happen. Go play NBA Live if you want to see that match-up.”That sounds he is saying they are going to beat the lakers. But hey it might just be me over reacting(hints im a die-hard laker fan)

  • http://www.yahoo.com Royal

    “That sounds Like”

  • Esco

That sounds like they’re not going to give up just so the League can have its La – Cle finals. I guess he is trying to say that they will put up a fight and try to win, but they won’t lay down. I don’t see a guarantee where he says “I guarantee we will beat the Lakers in 5 games!”. This whole thing is just stupid. I don’t see Kenyon giving up and saying, “The Lakers are the better team, we’re just trying to keep them in shape so that when they get to the finals, they haven’t been resting too long.”

  • http://nicekicks.com MeloMan13

Are u people retarded?!? the man said EVERYONE THOUGHT WE WERE GUNA GO DOWN SO THEY COULD PLAY. THAT AINT GUNA HAPPEN. this means that the Nuggets and the Magic arn’t gonna lay down and let the Cavs and Lakers win, they’re guna fight. Is a playoff team supposed to give uop on a series after the first two games? NO

k-mart the enforcer! im sure melo likes hearin this

  • J Dizzle

Sorry Kenyon, better luck next time! Nuggets are a bunch of chokers, none of them are ready for the big time games like the Lakers are. What happened in Game 3? I know Kobe loves close wins in Denver, and I know the fans hate it. Haha enjoy watching the Nuggets for the last time in Denver in game 4, too. They aren’t winning another in this series.

one thing about guaransheeds, they tend to not be fulfilled.

great gut it out game by kobe, pau and trevor. big game. melo’s got to step up and play like he did in game 1 and 2. avoid the fouls and nuggets will be deadlier. great game! great series. props to the bird man

  • http://nicekicks.com MeloMan13

Fans like Jdizzle are so pathetic. ur team loses, u shut up, when ur team wins u wanna hype up. NEWS FLASH buddy, Nuggets arnt supposed to be here in the first place. Lakers, however< are the favorites and it would be a HUGE dissapointment if u don;t considering they’re height, talent, and having arguably the best coach ever. and its not like u destroyed us. 2 inbounds passes gone right and the Nuggets lead the series 3-0

  • J Dizzle

MeloMan, they aren’t supposed to be here? Don’t play the sympathy card. They are a number 2 seed. The way the Hornets played against them, and the fact that they played DALLAS in the second round, they had BETTER be in the Western Conference finals. Thanks for the “news flash,” sorry Melo isn’t quite the player Kobe is. Get over it and your 2 in bounds passes. Everyone says that’s why they lost game 1, that’s bull. Lakers had the lead, and there’s no way you can prove the Nuggets would’ve made a shot or that the Lakers would’ve had time for a buzzer beater. So it’s not 3-0 and it will never be. It’s 2-1 and probably not coming back to Denver. Enjoy the last 2 games of the season and get off antony’s nuts.

MeloMan13:IF the refs would have called Melo for pushing Ariza down after the jump ball in game two then the Lakers will be up 3-0
PS: Please stop letting Carmelo tea-bag you,its kinda ruining your reputation

  • http://nicekicks.com MeloMan13

@J Dizzle: Whos comparing Melo to Kobe? cuz ur argument clearly isn’t with me. and tell me right now that at the begining of the season, heck, even at the beginning of the playoffs u thought the nuggets were getting to the WCF. yea thats right, u can’t. And to be honest, Lakers DO have the most talent, they DO have the best coach, they ARE alot bigger, and they ARE also alot more experienced. If u guys don’t win, its an epic failure for both the Lakers and ur poor kobe.

@Royal: WHAT are u talking about?? Ariza fell down for no reason. no one pushed him or anything. thats just u tryna justify the fact that a touch of the hand on any La player is a foul

and both of u: ok, my name is Meloman, i get why u would think im jokin him so hard. but if ur brain isn’t too cramped to read over my last post, then do that, because I’m lookin at it right now and have not seen a single mention of Melo. Both of u guys are just mad cuz u’ve never supported a team or player for more then a few months, and its obvious that ure both BANDWAGONNERSS

  • CDef28

MeloMan I fully expected the Nuggets to make the WCF. But Carmelo did not push Ariza down. Lakers are just soft. Kobe is being Kobe and that’s why they are up.

  • J Dizzle

MeloMan. They are both the biggest stars on their respective teams, everyone is comparing them. Sorry to go off topic from you though. You’re right, at the beginning of the season I didn’t see it happening. But coming into the playoffs the Nuggets had a better record than the lakers did by a couple games after acquiring Billups. It was no surprise to me that they made it here. It would be a surprise if they won. Yea it would be an epic failure for the Lakers, but we’ll see if that’s what happens. Don’t mean to get so heated, we’re obviously both big fans of our clubs. Looking forward to the rest of the series, I know you and everyone else is too. And I’m far from a Bandwangonner. I’ve lived in the LA area my whole life and have always repped the purple and gold. Long time die hard fan here, shouldn’t make assumptions man.

Why isn’t the recap of game 3 up yet? Lol!!

  • bill breedley

because the writers rest on weekends bro.

off night for melo after the 1st quarter but the boy has seriously grown up in these playoffs. he is just a shade below bron right now overall, but his better shooting touch will eventually make him at par with bron who is never going to be as reliable from outside

  • http://www.yahoo.com Royal

Bandwagoner noooooooooooooooooooooooo I never thought anyone would ever call me that.(sheds a tear)

  • http://nicekicks.com MeloMan13

@j dizzle: its all good bruh. this is what playoff basketball is all about

  • Jeter

Denver takes this on the home floor on Game 6.

I Want To See KEnyon Martin Get Teabagged when Kobe Dunks .. Wow. Is That To Graphic?

The NBA Press Corp. Where wildly reinterpreting soundbites to spice up boring post-game interviews happens. All the f^&*ing time.

Foul on Russ for bagging a dude with a stutter.
Three point play to Russ, pointing out hypocrisy.

  • The Promise

Well, no need to guarantee, cause if they dont win tonight, the series is over. L.A. is a very good team, and its gonna be hard for anybody to beat them. I’m rooting for Denver, since I’m always an underdog guy, and I’m not the biggest Laker fan ever..
