Vince McMahon vs Nuggets’ Team Owner

by Marcel Mutoni

The Denver Nuggets have more than just the Los Angeles Lakers to worry about in the Western Conference Finals. They also gotta deal with Vince McMahon and his band of yahoos.

Thanks to a blunder in the Nuggets’ front-office, Game 4 of the WCF is in direct conflict with a pre-scheduled WWE event (Monday Night Raw) set to take place in the Pepsi Center the same night.

The NBA says the date for Game 4 cannot be changed, and the wrestlers are not pleased. From Inside WWE:

“Even though the Denver Nuggets had a strong team this year and were projected to make the playoffs, obviously Nuggets and Pepsi Center owner Stan Kroenke did not have enough faith in his own team to hold the May 25 date for a potential playoff game,” said WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.

ESPN.com has a video interview with McMahon, during which he lays the smackdown (sorry, it can’t be helped) on Denver Nuggets’ owner, Stan Kroenke:

Clearly, Vince McMahon is an evil genius. The steel cage match idea to resolve the issue is flawless.

The NBA is as rigged as the WWE is. We know the Commish wants the Lakers and Cavs in the Finals as much as we know Vince McMahon wants HHH winning all his matches.

  • Myung

    Kidding. Sort of.

  • http://yahoo Austin

ok this is what should happen. I like both of these attractions that are about to collide on Monday. I think the WWE deserves it because they had the date saved since firggin August! But the NBA PLayoffs are the NBA PLayoffs so they get respect too. I want to know whathappens if this whole thing does not get resolved and the WWE and NBA show up there on MOnday NIght intending to run their show.

Undertaker by far is the best wrestler btw

WWE wrestles in the parking lot.

Wow Vince is cruel. HAHA He acts like its still 2002 when the WWE was the best thing on tv with The Rock and Austin and all those guys but whats with the ego did he not see the ratings hes been getting past 6 years. Raw sucks now anyways though so they should move that to a highschool gym instead.

The popularity of wrestling among the SLAM faithful is not surprising.

    But still upsetting, Allenp.

As much as Ric Flair gets respect for being the greatest (and he was great), not even he could outperform Shawn Michaels. I’m sounding like a mark right now, but so be it. Ric Flair had a very formulaic way of performing. He sold hits the same each and every match he was in, to the point where in his later years it was pure comedy watching him do it. (His being thrown into the turnbuckle only to flip over it, run on the apron and get knocked off before he could get back in the ring; his getting hit so hard that he’d bounce around before falling flat on his face.) Shawn Michaels, like Ric Flair, knew how to tell a story in the ring, but his would be much more colorful. What ends the debate for me? Neither Ric Flair, Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan, Sting, or any other of the top names mentioned could have put on the performance he did at Wrestlemania 14 in 1998. He shouldn’t have even been involved in the match due to the severity of the injury he sustained at the Royal Rumble that year, but at Wrestlemania he came out and put on an incredible match with Stone Cold Steve Austin, seemingly ending his career. Shawn Michaels is the Mike Jordan of WWE. There was no one who could out-perform HBK in his prime and after taking time off, he came out of retirement, albeit a little older, and still did it better than his peers. That’s 96-98 Mike I’m referring to as well.

Wow, I can’t beieve people are actually debating wrestling GOATs, without even a hint of irony. Its f*cking fake! And yes, you do sound like a “mark”.

Shawn Michaels/Michael Jordan: Reasons stated above.
Ric Flair/Bill Russell: Both carried their professions to new heights. Their names are both synonymous with “Champion.” An argument can be made for either as to why they deserve the “GOAT” title.
Triple H/Kobe Bryant: Both began their careers in the shadows of greatness – Triple H in the shadow of HBK, Kevin Nash/Diesel, and Scott Hall/Razor Ramon; Kobe in the shadow of MJ, Shaq, and Eddie Jones. Both showed undeniable talent and a determination to succeed. Both are seemingly obsessed with being the top guy (Triple H used his ties to HBK to get to the top, and his becoming a part of the McMahon family ensures that he shall remain there. Kobe drops ridiculous numbers and does so with this “Mike? Shaq? It’s Kobe!” attitude/mentality.
Shaq/Kevin Nash: Both recognized as “Diesel,” both Shaq O’Neal and Kevin Nash found their most success as big men alongside smaller counterparts. Shaq had Penny, Kobe, and Wade. Nash had HBK and Scott Hall. Shaq saw great success and popularity in Orlando, but it wasn’t until he left for L.A. in 1996 that he became arguable the most dominant big man of all time. Kevin Nash, under his “Diesel” persona, saw great success and popularity in the then-WWF, but it wasn’t until he left for WCW in 1996 that he really found his niche as one of the founding members of the nWo. Shaq remained successful after leaving L.A. despite being a shell of his former self. Nash has remained relevant as part of TNA despite being a shell of his former self.
The Rock/Lebron James: Poster boys for WWE/NBA, both are seemingly larger-than-life characters who transcend their respective positions. The Rock took over Hollywood after finding unattainable success so early in his wrestling career. LBJ has been in countless commercials and is friends with Jay-Z. Both are family-friendly names.
I have way too much time on my hands, but feel as though I’ve done something productive while in my sick bed. Cheers.

    Young Chris, you are intense.

And did Vince McMahon just say World Wrestling Federation? People at the World Wildlife Fund are not pleased.

Not going very deep in the playoffs? it’s the effing conference finals? That’s deeper than other contenders mmmhm boston celtics went….And wtf with the nuggets message? Unpredicatbility of the playoffs games? It’s the goddamn game four you HAVE to play that

I Wanna see that steel cage match!

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Is that Jonathan Coachman? I never knew he reported for ESPN!

  • Teddy-the-Bear

@ Bryan: Oh no doubt, son. Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, HHH, and Razor Ramone, among many others. Classic.
I haven’t watched wrestling in a long, long time.

  • http://www.clutchfans.net nick

I don’t think Vince wants kronke in that cage match…who do you think taught Melo the Slap-and-run?

  • http://www.clutchfans.net nick

In all seriousness, the nuggets should either: A) Give their share of ad revenue to WWE; B) Play the game in Boulder (at CU); or, C)Give the WWE the rights to a running plot involving the Birdman.

    @ciolkstar
anything that hollywood ever put ou is *fake*. doesn’t stop us from debating who’s the best preformer. sports *entertainment*. they stopped pretending to be legit competition about 30yrs ago.

    It’s wrestling. Who fu*king cares. It’s fake…. haha

  • jedi420

@Hursty… go to wrestlinggonewrong.com and tell some of those dudes that it’s fake haha… there is some of the most brutal screwups and injuries on that site!

  • Nefatiri

This is too funny. Love the debates. Alright. In all seriousness…Vince signed a contract which means his asz is covered. So…if he shows up and the NBA players show up, he’ll be pissing off a lot of Nuggets fans b/c he has the legal right to be there. On the other hand, I’d be willing to bet that a lot of people would go to the WWE event if nothing else but to see Super Cena and Legacy *yawn* over the b-ball game anyway. So…whatever.

I really don’t think its fair if Vince has to move. The reason he’s so pissed is because:
    1) WWE Monday Night Raw draws the most viewers on basic cable television each week. USA Network would probably be livid if he canceled.
    2) He can NOT tape it on Tuesdays because he tapes ECW and Smackdown on Tuesdays.
    3) Thursdays WGN’s WWE Superstars show is taped on Monday nights before the live Raw which means there’s no way he could tape it early that morning because you know the floors have to be stripped…yada yada
Unless he’s willing to tape it on Sunday (because they do house shows during the week) then he’s going to fight to keep his spot on Monday. It will literally screw up the whole taping schedule.

BTW, every wrestling fan will mark for someone but I don’t have to mark for Shawn. He’s the GOAT and in the word’s of Vince McMahon himself, “Shawn is in a league all by himself.” HBK>>>>Your favorite wrestler.
