HITS Regular Season Weekend Finale Recap

R2K and Bingo’s All-Stars add to their historic rivalry at Hoops in the Sun Spring League.

It was billed as the biggest NYC Streetball game going. The current rivalry between BX’s own R2K and Bingo’s All-Stars–meeting on the final weekend of the regular season in the Hoops in the Sun 2010 Spring League at Baychester Community Center.

R2K, coming into the contest at 5-0, went up against Bingo’s All-Stars, who were coming into the contest at 3-3–playing for their playoff lives. Bingo and Co.–defending HITS Spring League Champions–weren’t about to go down without a fight, and the punches landed heavily.

Bingo’s All-Stars started the game on a 12-0 run and never looked back. Too many weapons went up against R2K: from James “Stixx” Williams, Keydren Clark and Mike Glover, who led Bingo’s All-Stars with 40 points. Clark chipped in with 27 points and Williams tagged along with 21 points.

R2K, led by MVP candidate Jomo Belfor, sparked a mid second quarter comeback, even taking a one point lead before the half – but Belfor’s play, along with Dwight Hardy’s play wasn’t enough to tackle the emotionally charged Bingo’s All-Stars. Belfor led R2K with 34 points and Hardy poured in 30 points.

Bingo’s All-Stars would go on to defeat R2K 124-106 in a highly anticipated “summertime” feel match-up, but all of the Bronx knows already – they’ll meet again in the summer at Hoops in the Sun 2010 when the league kicks off on Saturday, June 12.

Even with this victory, it did not guarantee a playoff spot for the defending Spring League Champions as they were on the outside looking in as the Untouchables defeated R2K Sunday afternoon to punch their ticket to Friday’s Spring League Playoffs and that schedule looks like this:
