Summer Giving

Previewing Josh Powell’s 21 Reasons To Give weekend.

Lockout 2011 has been rough on virtually everyone. No free agency and summer league for the fans, no paychecks and places to work out for the players. The one thing that has benefited from the work stoppage are the Pro-Am’s leagues from coast to coast.

The Drew League and Goodman League are going at it tonight, while the Dyckman League, Indy Pro-Am, Chris Chambers City Classic, and Jamal Crawford Summer League have all been oozing with NBA players and college stars on a nightly basis.

Fresh off of a championship at the NC Pro-Am, Josh Powell has a reason to celebrate. The Atlanta Hawks forward kicked off his 21 Reasons To Give celebrity weekend yesterday with his youth basketball camp and bowling event in Raleigh that both drew legit crowds.

Continuing on in the spirit of good fun, Powell is hosting his official celebrity party at Champp’s in Raleigh Saturday night from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Celebs such as Ludacris, Green Lantern, Josh Howard, Marquis Daniels and Raymond Felton will be in the building living it up. The music should be live, the women nice, and the party legit. Tomorrow is the main event, though.

At 2:30 p.m. at Sanderson High School in Raleigh, Powell will be hosting a FREE celebrity all-star game at the conclusion of his camp. All you have to do is bring some school supplies for the little ones. Raymond Felton, Brian Dawson, Josh Howard, Marquis Daniels, Luda, Green Lantern, Gorilla Zoe and Kieon will all be lacing it up and putting on a show for the young ones.

With the NFL not kicking off for a few more weeks, I can’t imagine a better way for any sports fan to spend a Sunday afternoon while helping local youth in the process. SLAMonline will be in the building for all of the festivities as well.
