Training Camp Diary: Week 2

The Shock’s roster is starting to take shape.

The Tulsa Shock roster is starting to shape up.

First week of training camp is over, all the nerves and anxious excitement has been released now it’s time to get down and play. This is the moment that wePlenette Pierson have been waiting for. Coach Richardson has let us free and we are out there competing hard every day. We have learned the foundation of his system and each team is really going at each other hard. So hard that sometimes you forget you are in practice and not playing pick up somewhere. There’s trash talking, big girls running the floor for easy lay ups, people diving on the floor for loose balls. Man this system is going to be fun to play.

We recently had media day, the first in Tulsa shock history, it was a little different for me being a seven-year veteran. Everyone who had a part in media was a little stressed out but when the final pictures and videos come out it’s going to be worth the wait and stress. It’s crazy how big of a buzz there is around the Tulsa community, it makes us more and more excited everyday to hit the hardwood.

May 6, 2010 was a big day in history for the Tulsa Shock team, because that was the day we officially move into the BOK Center, making it our home court. My teammates and I were excited to move into our locker room and stake our claim on our lockers. Being that I’m one of the vets, I think I’ll just have to claim two lockers because I’m a big girl.

This is also exciting for our rookies because up until this point we have been using the Tulsa University volleyball team’s locker room which was small, cramped and not enough seating for everybody so some were in a different locker room all by themselves. No, that wasn’t apart of rookie initiation! Now that we will be in the locker room together we are really becoming a team.

Sad to see a couple of great girls get cut … Vivian Frieson and Juanita Ward.
