On rehab, AAU teams, and becoming a DJ.

What’s up, SLAMonline?!
Please forgive me for my brief hiatus, but I am back. Whew! Ben, thanks for staying on me about the blog. I tend to forget a lot and get lost in the trenches of rehab.
So, hmm, what’s been going on in my world? I am sure millions of you are wondering! Let’s see, I have been doing a lot of rehab, reading, working a ton with my foundation (The Alana Beard Foundation) and trying to make it three productive years in a row. Last but not least, more rehab.
This past weekend, I gave my six AAU teams (Alana Beard’s Future) in Maryland an end of the year banquet. We had the works, even a cool DJ that goes by the name @MissDjGemz on twitter. Follow her because starting Sunday I will have my first official DJ lesson. I’ll make sure she posts my progress and gives me a grade after every lesson. I am so excited, can’t you tell? I’m thinking I have to come up with a cool name for myself. What would you all suggest?
Anyways, back to my girls and the end of the year banquet. It was a really cool and fun event. The girls got all dressed up in their little dresses and pumps. A few had on 6-inch pumps and could barely walk, but they were still adorable. The part I love most about being around the girls is seeing their progress. Whether it’s on or off the court, I feel every time I’m around them I see progress. Nikki and Keith Chestnut, along with the coaching staff do a tremendous job. I must say I am very fortunate for great people…thanks guys!
So, on a rehab note I am on schedule and feel as good as I can feel at this point. I am now jogging at 100 percent body weight for the first time in five months. Can I get a “whoop whoop?” It feels so good to actually use my legs again. It feels good to see that all my hard work is paying off. I have made it through the hard part, now its smooth sailing…four more months to go before I am back. I bet you think I can’t wait, but I can. This injury has taught me patience for sure. I mean, I just look at it as my first vacation in 12 years and in four months, the vacation is over. Not really a vacation because rehab is a @#$%^ , but you know what I mean, right?
Oh yeah, let’s not forget to congratulate the Seattle Storm on a nice season. They are the true example of what happens when you keep your core together and trust that everyone will do their part. They were fun to watch. The series in general was fun to watch because no one expected Atlanta to last as long as they did…hmmph, they showed us! Man oh man, 2011 WNBA is going to be that much better…and I CANNOT wait! Whoop whoop!
That’s all for now and I promise I wont disappear for so long. If you get a chance check out my new web site at www.alanabeard.com and tell me what you think.
Until next time, when they say I cant…I will. Whoop whoop!
