Indiana Fever Win WNBA Finals

The Indiana Fever finished off the defending champion Minnesota Lynx, 3 games to 1, to win their first-ever WNBA Championship. The title was clinched with an 87-78 victory last night in Indianapolis.

Here’s some details, courtesy of the Indy Star:

The Indiana Fever did it, and they were able to win it. Tamika Catchings added the only missing element from a distinguished basketball resume: WNBA champion. Catchings had 25 points and eight assists Sunday night in becoming MVP of the WNBA Finals. The Fever completed an improbable run through the playoffs for their first championship, beating the Minnesota Lynx 87-78 to win the best-of-five series 3-1 before a crowd of 15,213 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The Fever became the city’s first pro basketball champions since the Indiana Pacers won the last of their three ABA titles in 1973.

i wish they would never show, promote or mention wnba ever ever EVER again on NBA TV.. and they better not keep them manly looking broads to keep running shows with em when NBA season begins..

I was surprised that Lynx didn’t win these series..Fever didn’t even have their 2nd best player in Katie Douglas…so weird that they were able to win ..and 3-1 at that..

Never been a Fever fan but I gotta admit it was nice to see Tamika Catchings finally get a ring. Had the feeling Indy just wasn’t gonna let it slip away this year…

I do not, nor have I ever, followed the WNBA but this I know–Tamika Catchings has got to be one of the most badass names for a hoopster. Ever.

Congrats to the Fever and to an all time legend Tamika Catchings. Class act player and one of the best to ever play the game. She really deserves this win!

I am curious about the real reasons why many guys absolutely and needlessly hate on the WNBA. Do they feel threatened by athletic women participating in what they would consider “their domain”? Are they put off by women who are are tall, not dainty, muscular and could probably beat them one-on-one? Are they less entertained by the natural gap in strength, athleticism, agility and power between males and females? Does liking/following the WNBA threaten their masculinity?

    yay?

Been watching the WNBA for years, when Cynithia Cooper was killing it. So glad Catchings finally was able to win a ring. Minny should have won, but Simone choked and Maya Moore went into Hero ball too much with her Billups Hero Three’s.

I really thought the Linx were gonna repeat. And I got mad love Seimone Augustus but 3 for 21 from the field? Damn… Must have had the jitters. Congratulations to the Indiana Fever though, I’m happy for them.
