Minnesota Lynx Defeat Indiana Fever 83-71, Tie Series 1-1 in WNBA Finals

A 23-point second half explosion on Wednesday night from last year’s WNBA Finals MVP Seimone Augustus has the 2012 WNBA Finals tied at one game apiece. From the Pioneer Press: “Seimone Augustus scored 23 of her 27 points in the second half, when the Lynx shed the sluggishness that plagued them in Game 1 to win Game 2 in front of 13,478 at Target Center. Maya Moore added 23 points and Lindsay Whalen had 14 points and four assists as Minnesota cleaned up its defense, forcing the Fever into 24 turnovers. Minnesota took a 60-55 lead after three quarters in what might have been the craziest quarter in franchise history. The Lynx trailed by two to begin the quarter, then climbed back to take a lead, only to trail by eight. During a 16-9 run to end the physical quarter, Lindsay Whalen was called for a technical foul after a no-call on a drive to the basket. Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve was beside herself, earned a technical foul for her rage, and threw her coat to the sideline. Augustus hit a three-pointer just before the end of the quarter for Minnesota’s five-point advantage. The Lynx shook off a sluggish first quarter to climb to within 33-31 at the half behind eight points from Taj McWilliams-Franklin and seven from Whalen, who played just 10 minutes in the opening half because of three fouls. Minnesota trailed by 12 in the second quarter but used a 12-2 run midway through the quarter to climb to within 25-23.”
