Silver Stars To Play On Pink Court For Breast Cancer Awareness

The San Antonio Silver Stars will play their annual Breast Health Awareness game on a pink court next month. The court, painted by breast cancer survivors, will be the first WNBA game and first known pro basketball game played on a pink court. Per the San Antonio Business Journal: “NFL players hit the gridiron for a few games each season dressed in pink shoes or gloves to help raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer. But San Antonio’s WNBA franchise will take the think pink campaign to a new level. The Silver Stars will play their annual Breast Health Awareness game on a one-of-a-kind pink court. Silver Stars officials believe this will be the first time than a professional basketball game has been played on a pink hardwood. Silver Stars season ticket holders who are breast cancer survivors will help paint the special hoops court, which will be used for the team’s Aug. 17 game against Phoenix.”

That might be awfully tough to watch.

I’m sorry – but this is stupid. Aren’t we more than aware of BC right now? How about actually raising funds for reseach so this crap can go the way of the dinosaur already? Breast cancer is not cute and pink – it’s a killer that wrecks lives. Stop with the “Awww – isn’t that cute?!?” already. Awareness does NOT prevent or cure BC, but research will. Wanna do something worthwhile? Donate some of the money used for the paint to breast cancer research, sheesh.
