Polladaday: No Country For Old Men?

Sign #326 your youth is fading: Three former scoring champions-two of them with MVP trophies-can’t find a job. If you could sign one of them, who would it be?

Which former star would you sign first?

I would like them all as backup players

okc should really take a look at shaq.. dude has exactly what they are missing.. he could provide post d, get some blocks, he actually tries to get some boards, hes got length (7’1″) and size (320 or more), and can put a stop to the likes of dwight howard and andrew bynum (whose size helped kill the thunder).. he could clog the middle which is exactly what the thunder need.. okc could play shaq (guarding bynum) and aldrich (guarding gasol) and be very, very effective on d.. okc needs to look into it..

AI should be on a team by now. You tell me AI can’t help any team in the NBA. AI is being casted out like Barry Bonds, where they can still play, but people are not giving them a chance. T-Mac knees are done, Shaq can only play for 15 minutes a game and AI still has good knees and can play over 25 minutes a game. Indiana or Knicks should pick up AI.

@ The Seed. In A.I.’s words, “I don’t know any franchise players that come off the bench. I don’t know any Olympian that come off the bench. I don’t know any all-star that come off the bench. I don’t know any former MVP that come off the bench. I don’t know any 3-time scoring champion that come off the bench. I mean, I don’t know any 1st team all-nba player that come off the bench. Why Allen?
In other words, his ego just isn’t compatible. He still has years left in him I’m sure, but his past arrogance/reputation (which I am a fan of) id working against him. He needs humility.

I’m actually surprised that 71 votes in it’s pretty equal…

I was one of those “how AI don’t have a job?…” dudes last summer but after what he pulled in Memphis and how he played in Philly, I just don’t know about dude no more. He gotta get that ego in check.

Big reason i take shaq( other than the fact i’m a shaq fan, lol) is bcuz he’s a big man. Can’t teach height of course. and it’s not easy to find a good 7 footer. Gotta take the Diesel

    118 it’s still really close.

  • chingy

141 still relatively close (all at least 30%). I’m actually surprised no one’s picked shaq up yet. I know he’s burned bridges but he’d be good use as a Dwight defender on any playoff team.

Shaq should have this by a landslide. He’s the only one that could legitimately start for a ‘chip contender.

At this point, New Jersey should just sign all of them.

  • whoooo!

@Dreamweaver, i remember that quote so clearly. they wanted him to come off the bench to slowly recover from injury. the BEST part: Tim Duncan came off the bench for that same reason that very season. and he’s got more rings, MVPs, all-stars, 1st teams, defensive teams, etc. it’s for that i dislike AI – his talent is supreme, but he gets it twisted like everyone’s picking on him, when in reality it’s his ego that is fueling all the misconceptions. it’s no wonder no team wants that guy now that he’s older.

Being that there is a huge shortage of legit 7 footers in the league I’d take Shaq in a second. He doesn’t dominate anymore, but he’s still good for 14pts 8 rebs and a block or 2…that’s more than can be said about most centers in the league. There are tons of quality gaurds in the league, not very many quality bigs.

I don’t think AI is even gonna sign. Probably retire or come back in the next few seasons. I would hope to see Shaq and T-Mac still playing.

What a bench would that be!

    1st. Shaq, 2nd. T-Mac, 79748756259th: The Canswer.

i take iverson because i think he has not played much the last 2 seasons. I still dont think he has gotten much of a chance. In his only full season in denver he averaged 26-7-2 on 45% shooting which is his highest ever and they won 50 games in the toughest western conference ever in which golden state won 48 games and missed the playoffs. then he got traded to detroit who did not really want him they wanted to get cap relief. why else would you trade your leader chauncey billups 4 a 23 million dollar player and then stick him on the bench. and memphis was never gonna work because they were an up and coming team with plenty of young players and he was trying to get a ring and was there only to sell tickets and then on my sixers he had family problems and couldnt really get into a rythm or get comfortable with the team. so im not saying he should start or star on a team anymore but i think he could be on of the best sixth men in the NBA if he checks his ego and accepts the role

  • Overtime

I want Shaq to sign with the Thunder, just so he can have the title of having played with 4 of the decades scoring title winners

  • hoodsnake

they all needs to go for surgery first…to get their lips removed from their asses before i would take any one of them

  • http://www.nbasinigual.blogspot.com The Big Dipper

Yo men… OK, fine, but I’ve got a question, a simple question. I wanna know why people like Juwan Howard isn’t in the list… Well, it’s a joke.
Really, sincerelly and quickly… Mr. AI, Allen Iiiiiiversonnnn!!!

  • JTaylor21

I don’t get how someone that slows a team down on offense and is a liability on defense can be first. The cavs last year were a way better team on defense and offense without shaq the anchor slowing them down. I rather have AI even though he needs to be coming of the bench. He can be like the “Microwave” used to be for Detroit; instant quick offense.
