Eric Gordon ‘Looking Forward’ to Hornets Being in the Playoffs

It’s that magical time of the year for NBA teams and players, where hope springs eternal and just about anything seems possible. In other words, not a single game has been played yet. Which probably explains why Eric Gordon is so optimistic about his New Orleans Hornets’ chances this season. Per the Times-Picayune (via BDL): “We have a lot of young talented players who will be very good for us,’ Gordon said. ‘This is a long-term process; it’s not a year or two where we’re going to be a championship caliber of team. I’m just looking forward to being in the playoffs this year and many more years of possibly getting a championship.’ As for how he’ll fit in at the guard position, Gordon was optimistic. The Hornets matched Phoenix’s four-year, $58 million deal this summer to keep Gordon in New Orleans. ‘We have a lot of guards on this team that can play,’ Gordon said. ‘(Austin Rivers) will play a little 1 and 2, and I’ll play a little 1 and 2 … I never didn’t like being here.’ Gordon appeared confident that there won’t be bumps in the road in how he’s received by the Hornets fan base this season, despite the tension surrounding his contract negotiations. ‘I’m here for the next four years, so it’s good to be involved with the community and the overall city,’ Gordon said. ‘It’s all about business at the end of the day. I was looking out for myself, and whatever you team you end up with, you look forward with that team. So it’s a give-and-take situation. There are negotiations you go through and many ups and downs.’”
