Latavious Williams Skips Out On Memphis For China

Latavious Williams announced he will play in China this upcoming season instead of starting his freshman year at the University of Memphis.

The news may come as a shocker as Williams is not a big-time prospect like Brandon Jennings and Jeremy Tyler, both of whom made the decision to play professionally overseas. Williams, a 6-8 Mississippi-native, made a release on Tuesday about his decision. “It was a difficult decision,” Williams said. “But after consulting with a number of people, and taking my family situation into consideration, playing overseas is the best move for me.

“It will not be an easy transition, but I have surrounded myself with a core of very competent people who I trust and who have my best interests at heart, so I am confident that things will work out very well,” he continued. At the time he put out the release, new Memphis head coach Josh Pastner was unaware of Williams’ decision. The former Christian Life Center Academy standout became Pastner’s first recruit back in May.
