Stan Van Gundy Calls Pistons ‘Obviously Horrendous’ and ‘Terrible’ After Loss to Knicks

The Pistons are .500 and fighting for a playoff spot in the crowded Eastern Conference. But last night they lost in pretty pathetic fashion to the Knicks, 102-89. Detroit shot 39 percent from the field and played with minimal energy, and they lost to a New York team that was without Kristaps Porzingis.

After the game, Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy expressed his frustrations openly, calling his team “terrible” and “horrendous.” Here’s a sampling of some of SVG’s saltiest quotes from his post-game comments last night, via Rod Beard of The Detroit News:

“We should all be disappointed — it was ridiculous. We were just terrible and we didn’t bring any energy to the game,” Van Gundy said. “We didn’t play well at either end; it was an embarrassing performance.

“We got a few stops and got out in transition but that was it. We made one run in the entire game — I’m not impressed.”

On Saturday, it was just Carmelo Anthony who got his shot going, hitting 11 of 19 field goals, for 24 points and 10 rebounds. Robin Lopez added 21 points and Arron Afflalo 20.

And the Knicks were playing without standout rookie Kristaps Porzingis (leg contusion).

“They dominate us. We can’t play Arron Afflalo and Carmelo Anthony; we have nobody to play those two guys,” Van Gundy said. “Robin Lopez always plays great against Andre — always.”

Steve Blake chipped in 13 points in 20 minutes and Reggie Bullock eight points. With a thin bench, they’re going to have to get contributions where they can.

“Off the bench, Steve played well and Reggie Bullock played well, but our starters on the perimeter were obviously horrendous,” Van Gundy said.
