I feel like an old man nowadays….I don’t even understand rap music today…it really just doesn’t even make sense to me anymore…Hip Hop is beyond dead, at this point is brain-dead… some kinda zombie eating away at the minds of the youth…can’t even get with it at all.

@The Black Rick Kamla:I felt the same way you do about hip hop, then I downloaded every mixtape Jay Electronica every put out and I started believing again.

Hmmm…
I think Tyler the Creator is commercial is hell, but that’s beside the point.
I’ve tried to listen to his stuff and try to understand what the big fuss is about, but I just don’t see it.
Maybe cause the kid is so young he just comes off as stupid to me, but then again Nas was like 17 when he recorded Illmatic so who knows.
One of my little homies said something about liking Tyler cause there’s never been a rapper like him who raps about the kind of crazy stuff he does, but I quickly deaded that by letting him know about the old school horrorcore rappers like Gravediggaz, Brotha Lynch Hung and pre-Grammy Three Six Mafia.
I read somewhere that Tyler kid doesn’t like being labeled horrorcore.
That’s nice, of course you’d like to think you came up with a style all your own, but everything under the sun’s been done before in hip-hop, and other cats have definitely done it better than him.
T-Ray
I understand all of you guys opinions on Tyler. Me and my friends knew him before he got famous and he’s a cool dude and if you knew his upbringing you would really relate to his music. I thought Goblin was a pretty dope album for a guy with no deal at the time his sound is very different.

Hip hop used to be a lot better than it is not. It has never been “music” – not EVEN close, but it used to at least require some talent to write. Now, just yell and chant. Patron Patron Patron Patron Patron

I’m a Tyler fan. I had this whole soliloquy about why but eff it. He’s an acquired taste. He’s a really dope producer tho. I think that gets overlooked a lot.
As a far as Beas goes, he’s my second favorite player behind Dwade. Why? I really don’t know. I just root for him because I really wanna see him do well.
enigmatic, i saw an interview with tyler about being compared to gravediggas. the reason he doesn’t wanna fall under that category is cuz he admitted all those dudes before him were before his time (he said he was 2 years old when gravediggas dropped), and he never really discovered their music. at least he’s honest
regardless, he can actually spit for being so young, AND in this age of hiphop

In the present day..rappers are more commercially successful now, but their hearts are a lot weaker.
The reason Tyler’s following is so big is because of his careless, IDGAF persona and the darkness he brings to his music. That’s why teenagers my age like him. I listen to him for entertainment more than skill value(even though he’s ok). His music is something that pumps me up/makes me laugh/impresses me/almost makes me throw up. It’s kinda like why people like Lil B. He’s REAAAAAAAALY garbage but cooking is effin’ addictive and his music is so garbage it becomes funny. But hell I gotta wide range in music taste even though I’m beginning to listen to the more under-appreciated MCs/Bands/Singers now. But if there’s one guy that is head and shoulders above his newcoming peers is definitel y Kendrick Lamar, Section.80 was amazing.

@blackphantom i would say mike g n hodgy deserves the most buzz

there hasnt been a rapper like tyler he is different in his own way with a verey diferent kind of swagger i like two songs from that “jew hew” with a lot of different kind of meanings but powerfull i hope to hear ALOT more from him. Michael beasley who, i havnt heard anything about him since his freshman year at kstate, i hope the person who is trying to write this article isnt trying to say that tyler the creator is going to be a one hit wonder like beasley

Tyler reminds me of early Em with the F everybody vibe but his flow really isnt that good and the shock value wears off, at least Em was a lyricist. He can have a flock of followers it wouldnt impress me, now if the comparison is like both these dudes had early praise and are destined for obscurity, I agree 100%

oh and supercoolbeas back tat looks like trash

I got some help from one of my students on this one. He recommended Tyler and Rodman but I’m sticking to active players and I already did Metta as DMX for the crazy player/rapper combo. Thank you for the help Tarel.

rodman came in the league cleancut, he didnt start acting out until he got to san antonio, Tyler is at 100 out the door. i like the comparison MJ to Jay-z. both came up around great rappers/ players (Isiah Thomas, Bird, Johnson, Dominique/ Biggie,Tupac, nas , busta rhymes) and just had the longevity and astounding careers reaching personal greatness, oh and the whole retirement thing/the black album

Guuhhhh… these are always so forced. Why? WHY?

Golf Wang, kill them all!
Forget Hopsin, Tyler didn’t bother with that fool.

davidR – I wasn’t born when grand master flash, boogie down productions and early de la soul albums dropped but that didnt stop me listening religiously in my teenage years. that old generational excuse is a joke. hip hop is super lame atm – dumbing down urban folk and you know WHO i mean.
