Baron Davis on Trade Rumors: ‘I Don’t Want to Leave’

Despite just about everything having gone wrong since he arrived in town, Davis tells FanHouse that he wouldn’t want the Clippers to trade him: “It’s no secret the Clippers wouldn’t mind trading Baron Davis and the two years and $28.8 million left on his contract after this season. It’s no secret that, with Davis’ production way down, Eric Bledsoe is the Clippers’ point guard of the future. But what could be considered a surprise is how gung-ho Davis is about wanting to remain with the team. ‘It’s tough because it’s the nature of the business,’ Davis said. ‘But it’s tough because I don’t want to leave. I’m here. I came here for a reason. If I were to be traded, I just think that I just never really got a chance to do what I was signed here to do.’ Davis, a native of Los Angeles, signed a five-year $65 million contract as a free agent in the summer of 2008 with his hometown team. ‘I just look at it like you brought me here and you got to give me an opportunity,’ said Davis, who is averaging just 8.8 points and 6.3 assists, the lowest numbers since his rookie season of 1999-2000. He has battled a left knee injury and claims by Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro that he didn’t report to training camp in proper shape. I just want to (have an) opportunity to establish something with this core unit and this group and then we’ll keep going,’ he added.”

” I just think that I just never really got a chance to do what I was signed here to do. I just look at it like you brought me here and you got to give me an opportunity”. And the last 2 and a half (almost) seasons have been what, exactly?

ah horse piss.. how long has dude been there? i think you ran out of oppurtunities not long after you arived to clipper nation

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

they seem to be doing a lot better now that he’s starting again

  • Overtime

I hope he stays, more for the lobs to Griffin than anything else!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

In other words, Baron is saying “I want to ride Blake Griffins coatails back into relevance.”

  • Brahsef

    Clipper nation?

  • LB

Hahaha wayno, Baron is thinking “maybe the fans and Donald Sterling will overlook my atrocious shot selection and field goal percentage and instead just look at the lobs I throw to Blake Griffin- they dont even have to be on point- I just have to throw it up there, and I’ll be on SportsCenter!”

Say what you want about Baron, but Griffin plays much better off him than he does off Bledsoe.

  • JD

Must be the first time someones wanted to stay with the clippers

Maybe the trade rumours and his desire to stay will help him get into the gym. I still like his game, but he isn’t in the kind of shape he should be in and his knee still doesn’t seem right. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I think he should stay for now unless they can somehow trade him for a better or just as good PG, but when its time for Gordon and Griffin to get their extensions, he’s gotta go.

  • JTaylor21

Don’t trade BDiddy for now until EBled learns how to run a team because dude looks lost out there and just can’t create good looks for BGriff. BD on the other hand does a great job of running the offense and creates great looks for Griff which is good because teams double him automatically on the catch. If the clips keep playing well, they might find themselves putting some fear in some top seed in the playoffs

  • http://shinefluid@aol.com just bcuz

what player ever says they want to leave?? even if they do…oh and btw bdiddy is from L.A so he might just wanna stay home

  • http://google c_cantrell

blake griffin and eric gordon are making davis look like a decent player lately.. take them out of the game plan his already meager assists numbers drop dramatically.. they so need to get rid of him

  • Blue

He’s into film and extracurricular pursuits more than basketball and LA is the perfect place for this.

Who wants to stay in LA? By that i am talking about Clippers not Lakers. It’s only business, nothing personal.

any of my SLAM friends have any random authographed nba stuff that yal would like to get rid of? there is a hospital not too far from where i live that is full of children who know their days are numbered.. sometimes athletes come to see them but not very often.. but giving them something autographed by a pro (of any sport really) just puts such a huge smile on thier face and delight in thier hearts.. it just makes thier day yal.. so do something special and make yourself a blessing to someone else much less fortunate.. if anyone is interested just leave a comment and il get you my address somehow and deliver to these kids.. thanks

Its eltons fault for telling baron hes staying, then bolting right after baron signed. …… But, I dont blame elton really, im sure he had enough of sterling. ……

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

You would think at this stage in his career he would want to be on a contender.. He must really love L.A. I bet if given the chance, he wouldn’t mind being a Laker..

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Bossterry, sterling would not trade him to a contender. And what contender would trade good fitting and proven pieces for baron?.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

c_cantrell is your story legit? Sounds fishy as hell. Pretty low if it’s not.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Enigmatic, your bs detector is blaring. Theres no way thats legit. If anyone sends him stuff, they must have severe brain damage.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Oh, and Im giving away 1hundred dollar bills to the homeless, so anyone who wants to help my cause, get in touch with me.. Dont have 1 hundred dollars? • http://Www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Wow, al with one of the stupidest comments of the year. Don’t worry though, everyone, there’s still 3 days left to stop that. I pity the foo!

  • http://Www.bulls.com Enigmatic

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

I really need to invest into one of those ebonics dictionarys.. Or I could just bang a hammer against my head a few times..

  • greg

  • Mike from Spain

@BossTerry @11:07 I like that, how is this for a slogan? -> ‘Lebron 8, the hobo’s footwear choice’

  • http://google c_cantrell

im being serious guys.. the hospital is st. judes in tulsa, oklahoma.. if yal dont wanna give then its cool thats yals choices but dont knock what im doing here.. im just trying to lift these unfortunate kids spirits some because i actually care about the sick and dying and others beside myself.. so if you want to help me i would appreciate it but if not then its whatever

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Seems like a really nice gesture, Cantrell.. But on here, we dont really know anything about people except their screen name.. Alot of people if they wanna give to charity, they probably do it themselves just to make sure, 100% its going to the right person.. Good luck with what your doing, and Happy New year..

  • michelle

he wants to stay because that’s the only way he’ll get on sportscenter on youtube (via the poster child’s amazing dunks)

  • Mike from Spain

Hi c_cantrell, sorry , I thought it was a running joke… I think giving basketball shoes to children who can’t afford them is really great, anything to enable the underprivileged to live basketball, it’s beautiful. Sorry, my joke was directed to BossTerry’s comment, no intention to knock what you are doing. Cheers and Happy New Year!

  • Mike from Spain

oops sorry , my reading comprehension skills are severely impaired by a hangover, never mind the part about the shoes, but the general sentiment of my 8:08 comment still applies… giving a smile to these children is great, keep the good work.
